District by District Impact on Health Care Legislation

by: Colorado Pols

Fri Jul 24, 2009 at 17:52:09 PM MDT

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has made available a website with district-by-district breakdowns on how the current health care plan will affect consumers and small businesses. It's a great resource, but we pity the poor bastard who had to put all this information together.

As for the tax surcharge that Democratic Rep. Jared Polis used to unhelpfully insert himself into the discussion, the numbers don't back up his argument very well: The surtax would not affect 98.3% of taxpayers in CD-2.

Nice surtax data:-) Tells a story, yes?

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble and reclaim the commons. Stop the militarization of America.

Hey we can all have Scooters from The Scooter Store
if only people like the Congressman recognize it not about the right or wrong of a decision.

Regardless if its 1.7% or 40% of the population that takes a tax hit, as long as you keep 51% very happy on the new state plan de jour, any spend and tax policy can be passed.

Every time I see one of those ads on TV, I fume.
And here in Florida, they run them a lot.  In fact, one of the scooter scammers has a factory in the next town north.

One of the problems with Medicare is that they will pay for something reasonable in need, and then capitalistic pigs will use that good intention to make a killing.

And there is absolutely no return of, or "recycling" of scooters or wheelchairs back into the system.

When I was in L.A. and pretty naive on all these matters, I was talking to a DON in an assisted living facility.  Seems that they had their own version of a company doctor.  He would show up on Tuesdays with a helper and a nurse, and every old person who wanted some attention could see him.  And every few minutes, he was able to bill Medicare an office call charge.  Ka-ching!

There's only 0.000155% of CD-2 that matters
and that's Polis himself.

Fucking twit douchebag asshole.

Can you let us know how you really feel?
Some of your comments are so subtle it's hard to figure out what you're driving at :)

sxp could have said Polis acted "stupidly"

I could have
but I don't want to buy him a beer.

Polis
I won't use the same language, but I agree of your assessment of Polis.  Our collective health- THE most important issue of our time- and Polis is trying to sink it!

I can't wait to go to work to remove him from office so we can get someone in who actually has legislative experience and wants to work for US and not just his own ego!!!

One vote less
I voted for Polis. I won't make that mistake again.

Jared made a dumb move but...
If we're going to crucify every politician who makes a dumb move, all we'll be left with are ones who are very careful to do nothing.

Jared made a dumb move on this. Ritter has been politically tone deaf on a number of items, and wrong on a couple too (there is some cross-over between the two).

And then we pile on Michael Bennet because he's being oh so careful on every vote.

Yes we should let them know when we disagree. But there is a world of difference between "I think you position on this sucks" and "becaise I disagree with you on this one proposal I will never vote for you again."

A little perspective please.

Here's the problem, David
If you DON'T crucify every politician who makes a dumb move, they'll do it over and over.

Polis isn't my congressman, thank God.

I've had it up to my eyeballs with Republicans who have no solutions, only objections.  I'm apolitical on this issue.  I've had it up to my eyeballs with Democrats who do the same damned thing.

Polis could be part of the solution or part of the problem.  He's chosen to be part of the problem.

Today, you're either going to get better or you're going to get worse, but you're never going to be the same.  Which one will it be?  --Joseph V. Paterno

How about if we disagree short of torches & pitchforks?
If we crucify every dumb move it loses it's impact.

If we crucify every politician who makes a dumb move
We'll run out of wood to crucify them on.

Never mind that your dumb might be my smart and vice versa. Dumb usually means "disagree."

Somebody agreed with Jared (not me, but somebody).

It's not like he screwed his chief of staff by boinking the campaign manager wife and then had his parents pay her off with illegal hush money while he prayed with his cult buddies at the tax haven they live in.

Perspective, please.

Non impediti ratione cogitationis.

BTW, I "adduced" this all by myself, you total fucking assclown.

David...
I respect your view but I'm already fed up with Polis and this was just the cherry on top!

"...Somewhere between left and right is the middle..."

[ Parent ]
That's a fair viewpoint
If you already have numerous reasons to be fed up with an individual, then there is always one that puts you over the top. So fair enough on that.

And if he ends up killing the healthcare bills - I'll join you.

to continue
I saw Udall really come up and engage with the small mountain towns he represented.  I saw his staff, specifically Dan Gibbs, REALLY try to learn issues.

Polis waits around for these communities to contact him.  Then his staff doesn't know how DC issues affect these towns and what the towns need.  It is all VERY frustrating!

Plus I just don't like someone buying a congressional seat.  Pay your dues, learn the system, etc.

Oh Joan, we are so sorry!

"...Somewhere between left and right is the middle..."

[ Parent ]
I saw Udall run away from his constituents
It's all a matter of perspective.

You see Udall as engaging with the voters while I saw him running away due to the fact that in his last 2 years as a rep he had a total of 1 pre-announced event where he took questions from the public.

This isn't just a random bad move
Health care reform is THE big issue for Democrats all over the country, and it was a major issue during last summer's primary campaign in CD-2. Hell, Polis campaigned on single-payer reform, and then he goes and votes against the first meaningful health care legislation we've had in 15 years.

When Polis campaigned for CD-2, health care reform was one of the 2-3 major issues. He said he would support reform as a candidate, and then as soon as a bill showed up, he voted no. That's not just an isolated complaint. This is no different from a Republican running on "no new taxes" and then voting YES on the first tax increase that comes across his desk.

[ Parent ]
In Polis' defense
he admitted in the Daily Camera that his "no" vote was completely disingenuous, that he only did it to grandstand on an issue of importance only to himself, that he would have voted otherwise if it actually mattered, and that it was really just about getting himself some attention.

Wait, I guess that's not much of a defense.

What a douche.

"Have a Bobby bar! My dad made them." --Jon Huntsman Jr.

[ Parent ]
Big difference between being dumb and being a douche
A douche knows what's the right thing to do, and does the wrong thing for personal benefit.

Sarah Palin is dumb. Joe Lieberman is a douche.

Besides, as the guy who won't stop complaining years later about Mark Udall because he turned down an interview with you, are you really the best person to give advice on forgiving politicians for a single disagreement?

"Have a Bobby bar! My dad made them." --Jon Huntsman Jr.
