Anthony Scaramucci is a Walking, Talking Meme

New White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci in his first press briefing today.

There’s a new Sheriff in town in the White House communications office. If you thought recently-departed spokesperson Sean Spicer was full of crap…wait until you get a load of the new guy, Anthony Scaramucci.

Today the White House held its first on-camera press briefing in weeks to introduce Scaramucci, and — hoo-boy — “the Mooch” is something else. From the Washington Post:

President Trump’s decision to bring Anthony Scaramucci into a top White House role represents a remarkable political ascension for the investment veteran, who had bounced around several Republican campaigns before striking gold as a full-throated Trump supporter.

Scaramucci, known as “the Mooch,” is in many ways cut from the same cloth as his new boss. A brash New Yorker who is comfortable jousting with the media, he is a promoter who some say carries a vindictive streak…

…This would be at least the third job in the Trump administration that Scaramucci has been offered. He was set to be director of the White House’s Office of Public Engagement, but critics within the White House blocked him from ultimately taking that post.

In June, he started working in a senior role at the U.S. Export-Import Bank, but he will have been in that job for only about a month, because he will be transitioning into the White House communications job very soon.

Scaramucci is a former hedge fund executive with little actual experience in “communications,” but he doesn’t appear to have any problem creating his own “alternate facts” about President Trump.

Here in “reality,” President Trump’s approval ratings are historically bad. As ABC News notes:

Americans give President Donald Trump the lowest six-month approval rating of any president in polls dating back 70 years, punctuated by questions about his competence on the world stage, his effectiveness, the GOP health care plan and Russia’s role in the 2016 election.

Just 36 percent of Americans polled in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll approve of Trump’s job performance, down 6 points from his 100-day mark, itself a low. The previous president closest to this level at or near six months was Gerald Ford, at 39 percent, in February 1975.

Trump’s appointment of Scaramucci seems likely to actually increase the level of drama in the White House. Chief of Staff Reince Preibus is reportedly furious about “the Mooch” now taking the role of lead spokesperson, but Scaramucci seems to have figured out that there is job safety in talking nonsense so long as it is what Trump wants to hear:

  1. This job may just be another stepping stone according to Politico:

Despite the public professions of optimism, Scaramucci's expected appointment has caused great upheaval in the West Wing, with Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon also expressing opposition to him getting the high-profile job.

"This was a murdering of Reince and Bannon. They said Anthony would get this job over their dead bodies," said one top White House official.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the situation said that Scaramucci is being primed to eventually take on the position of chief of staff.

One person close to White House said there is potential for mass exodus in press office.

Priebus has told people he is determined to stay with the job for one year, mainly to prove the naysayers wrong, but it looks increasingly difficult. That person said that Priebus has been concerned about his reputation and thinks leaving any time short of a year would be seen as a failure.

"The open question is Reince," the person said.

      1. And I've had it stuck in my head all weekend. "…Thunderbolts and lightning! Very, very frightening…" Are those storm clouds rumbling over the White House?

  2. Scaramucci also has links to Russian money. Of course he does.

As cofounder of Skybridge Capital, Scaramucci tried to violate sanctions by working with the Russia Direct Investment Fund.

CNN reported (incorrectly) that Scaramucci was investigated by the State Department for having this meeting. Ultimately, CNN retracted the story, and three of its reporters resigned over the incident.

But the meeting happened. Scaramucci tried to violate sanctions. He sold his stake in the Skybridge hedge fund, when he was trying to get hired by the Trump Administration last January. He probably still can't get a security clearance, like half of Trump's cabinet.

The only thing CNN got wrong was the entity investigating Scaramucci – it was two US Senators, (Cardin and Warren) not the full Senate Intelligence Committee.

So we've got one more Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, Russian money hungry Putin fan in the White House staff. Is the swamp drained yet?

    1. See, I think that Melissa McCartney could still do it. There is another male SNL regular who looks more like the "Mooch". But it's still worthwhile having women play these parts, because it irritates the men so.

  3. This is nuts that the White House is censoring this way, and that the media is allowing it.

    Right on both counts.

I think Trump is gonna go "full court press" on the press. It’s a mistake.

I learned, as a kid playing marathon Monopoly games, that when you have a community down and you are being arrogant and pushing people around, they will gang up on your ass and take you down…

A lesson our Yam-in-Chief should have learned long ago, but apparently didn't. Donald, buddy, listen up…you can't shit on everybody but Putin and Tillerson. They are going to gang up on you eventually…oops…too late…..

  4. He's a Liar.

    They are all LIARS.

    They Lie like they Breathe.

Their every Breath is a Lie.

Call it, Pols…….memes are for idiots.

Lies are Malicious with intent to destroy.

  5. The "long game," eh? Lemme guess: quadrillions of Americans who very much support Trump are falsely telling pollsters that they disapprove, thus artificially inflating the disapproval numbers. The Dems will be lulled into complacency by the artificially inflated disapproval numbers and not put much effort into the next POTUS election, thereby ensuring that Trump gets reelected in a landslide, a real one this time!

Is THAT how the "long game" works?

    1. You've gotta' admire a Presidential spokeshill who can come up with something even more stunningly meaningless and ridiculous than Moderatus would???

In one day Moochi's managed to raise the Spicer/Conway/Huckabee low-bar even further down . . .

  6. Walls don't work. Never have never will. The Berlin Wall 1961-1989 don't fall for it.

    ~ Mooch (Dec. 1, 2015).

This is gonna be good (for large enough values of "good").

  7. Ugly rumor has it that The Mooch is also a believer in climate change too.

And as for not having any experience in this sort of thing, when has it stopped these people?

Case in point, besides the Great Orange One: Ben Carson.
