Trump Sure Knows How To Comfort Our Closest Ally

President Donald Trump.

CNN reporting on the one-man war of words against London Mayor Sadiq Khan waged by President Donald Trump in the aftermath of a terror attack in London this weekend–stunning for its pointless criticism of a public official trying to get his city back on track after a tragedy they didn’t ask for:

US President Donald Trump renewed his criticism of London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Monday, a day after attacking his handling of the weekend’s terror attack in the city.

Trump, writing on Twitter Monday, said: “Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!”

It is the second day that Trump has twisted the mayor’s words. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Khan said there was “no cause for alarm” when referring to a visible increase in police activity on the streets of London…

After Trump’s first attack on Khan, the acting US ambassador to the UK, Lewis Lukens, notably singled out the London Mayor for praise.

“I commend the strong leadership of the @MayorofLondon as he leads the city forward after this heinous attack,” read a tweet from the US’ London embassy attributed to Lukens.

Trump’s context-free broadsides against Mayor Khan, who was in no way attempting to downplay the shock of this weekend’s vehicle and knife attack, stand in ugly contrast to the support the United States has received from Great Britain during terror attacks against this country. It’s just bizarre to see this kind of behavior from a sitting President of the United States, openly disparaging our nation’s closest ally and recklessly making an ass out of himself–as a viewer “pop quiz” from MSNBC’s Morning Joe makes painfully clear:

We’re really sorry about this, Britain. Nobody is getting used to it.

  1. We must not discount the threat of radical Islam.

Shouldn't Mayor Khan be focused on stopping extremism among his fellow Muslims? Why isn't he?

    1. People who live in glass houses should avoid throwing rocks….

Nearly as many people died today in Tampa as died in London over the weekend. Maybe instead of trashing the mayor of London, Drumpf should focus on making the United States safe.

By the way, Moldy, didn't your boy promise to destroy ICCES on Day One?

    2. The Mayor of London is focused on preventing terrorism and helping his city to recover from this attack.

What is President Trump focused on besides picking a fight with Great Britain by quoting completely and consciously out of context what the mayor of London said? Its hard to tell but it certainly isn't fighting terrorism.

I really don't like this subject in the context of political discourse but one has to wonder about Mr. Trump's mental processes and stability. It has nothing to do with policy preferences or political philosophy. His thoughts and tweets are so off the wall at times that one can't help but wonder about his mental state.

    3. The good news is …he is. From Khan's op-ed in The Guardian:

Londoners understand better than most how the people of Manchester will be feeling today. It is just over two months since the horrific attack on Westminster, in which PC Keith Palmer and four innocent bystanders were brutally murdered and more than 50 injured. The attack in Manchester happened four years to the day since the cowardly murder of fusilier Lee Rigby in Woolwich. And of course we will always remember the tragic events of 7/7, in which 52 people were killed and more than 700 were injured.

In the face of such horrifying and tragic events, Londoners have never given in to those who seek to destroy our way of life and divide our communities – nor will the people of Manchester now. Our great cities and our great nation stands more united than ever before. And more determined to tackle the perverse and twisted ideology behind those who have carried out these atrocities.

We must now redouble our efforts to destroy the poisonous ideology held by these extremists and terrorists to stop another incident like this happening again. We must renew and improve the government’s anti-extremism programmes, so that they are more effective at rooting out homegrown extremism. We must build stronger and more resilient communities that can resist the extremists. And we must give our police and security services the resources they need in order to keep us safe.

    4. Moldy, maybe our Christian leaders should work as hard at preventing Extremist Christians from going ape shit. The extremists have as much connection to Christianity as the London Terrorists have to Islam.

Also, I want my ACA and Russia articles. And a list of the things that Senator Cory Gardner has done that are evil and a list of things he has done that are not evil. Since as you said ” Not everything Cory Gardner does is evil”

    5. ". . . the threat of radical Islam . . . "

      Still a threat???? . . .

I guess Drumpf's strategy of relentlessly carpet-tweeting ISIS for nearly five months hasn't produced the results you were promised???

  2. Both-siderism, the niceties of "fair and balanced" journalism (that Pols also clings to), and letting too many of the lies go free:

US President Donald Trump renewed his criticism of London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Monday, a day after attacking his handling of the weekend’s terror attack in the city.

    should read:

US President* Donald Trump renewed his premature and misguided criticism of London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Monday, a day after attacking his handling of the weekend’s terror attack in the city that Trump based on an incomplete reading of the mayor's response to the attack. Despite the fact that Trump's tweets about the mayor were all filled with lies, he nevertheless persisted. and used the events to promote his still illegal ban on Muslims entering the country.

  3. From Khan's speech yesterday:

“And as a proud a patriotic British Muslim I say this: You do not commit these disgusting acts in my name.”

“Your perverse ideology has nothing to do with the true values of Islam. You will never succeed in dividing our city. "
