Buck says journalists are "inventing this Russia story"

Rep. Ken Buck (R).

Some Colorado conservatives are joining Trump in blaming the press for the daily-eye-pop-head-spin news stories streaming from the White House.

Leading the charge are local talk radio hosts, but conservative politicians are also mad at journalists.

Appearing on KOA 850-AM’s Mandy Connell show yesterday, U.S. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) lamented that the media are “inventing this Russia story.”

Buck: “When George Bush won, he was the dumbest human being alive, even though he’d gone to great schools and gotten great degrees. Every time he stumbled in a speech, it was a story for two or three days. He just wasn’t smart enough to be president ” Buck told Connell. “And then we get Barack Obama, and he’s the smartest person in the world. He’s just a savior.

“And then we get Donald Trump. And they’ve got to find something with Donald Trump. He’s a very successful businessman. So obviously he’s not stupid. So now now we’re inventing this Russia story, and just on and on.”

Citing the anonymous sources used by the New York Times in its story about Trump pressuring Comey to lay off Flynn, KNUS radio host and (former Fox 31 Denver reporter) Julie Hayden said on air May 15.

Hayden: “I have been dismayed — I mean, as a reporter– at just how they just make it –. I mean, they really do just make it up, you know!”

C0-host Chuck Bonniwell jumped in with, “They don’t care. They just don’t care.”

You can always criticize journalists, and some people will never accept anonymous sources, but that’s why we have professional journalism. To utilize such sources in a responsible way. That’s not making stuff up–or not caring.

Gubernatorial candidate George Brauchler also pointed to media bias among reporters covering Trump. On KNUS 710-AM May 15, Brauchler said:

Brauchler:  [Journalists] don’t need Trump’s help. But he gives it to them anyway. That’s the only part that’s a little frustrating, is like, ‘If you, Mr. President, could just pull it back– just a little bit — it would expose, I think, how biased that they truly are.’ Because right now, there’s just enough there that they make mountains out of molehills, and all this other stuff.  But if he can just pull it back, just a little bit.

To her credit, KOA host Mandy Connell faults Trump for blundering, but then she attacks the “viciousness” of the media and says the “media has picked [his blunders] up, [and] blown up into massive proportion.

“Trump keeps giving the media ammunition with which to shoot him,” said Connell on air. “If he would shut his pie hole sometimes and not shoot from the hip, they would not have the ammunition that they currently have.”

In truth, the media are working sources and exposing serious dangers to us and our democracy. That’s what the fourth estate is supposed to do. Thank you, journalism.

    1. Uh Moldy, he's in the house majority.  His guy is in the WH.  He is the power.

Btw, I want my ACA article and why Rump was correct in betraying Israel to Russia.

      1. You will probably get it right after you write an article about how Obama was correct in betraying Israel to Iran.  Just sayin'.

        1. Hey Cornholio.  Maybe you can tell us about how the Iran nuclear deal was betraying Israel.  Just another baseless claim from a sad little man.

    2. Wait a minute. At the federal level the Republicans control the executive and legislative branches of government and both branches believe the Trump/Russia issues require a thorough and comprehensive investigation. Deputy Attorney General Bornstein on behalf of the executive branch and the Republican leadership in both the House and Senate, on behalf of the legislative branch, have authorized investigations of this situation. Apparently, all the Republican "powers that be" believe, as reported by the news media, that the Trump/Russia issues merit an investigation. The news media didn't create this investigation, By their behavior, Mr. Trump and his campaign associates did. The media has reported on it.

By the way, as the former chief of the criminal division at the U.S. Attorney's office and ten years as Weld County district attorney, Mr. Buck should know that he should not come to any conclusions about an investigation until it is completed. We are at the front end of this one and he has no more information than we do about Trump and Russia. He's not part of the congressional investigations and certainly not part of the FBI investigation so his statement that the media is "inventing this Russia story" is vacuous.

      1. "If you like your Doctor, you keep your Doctor period. If you like your plan you can keep your plan. Premiums will go down by $2500."

        1. …says the man with government insurance.  Moddy -where's that report you promised?!?

Did you see this, PeePee?  A woman who wears her balls on her chest (that’s a compliment from those of us who aren’t scared by strong women) introducing a bill that would allow those who live in counties with no insurance to have access to the insurance exchange used by Congress? I'm guessing the list of co-sponsors will not include any white men from the GOP.

No insurance choice? McCaskill wants you to be able to buy from exchange used by Congress

    3. Yeah.  Except for all that actual, mounting evidence.  You know, the stuff that grand juries get and issue indictments for.  Flynn should be extremely nervous about now, even if it's only a "so-called" federal judge who will preside over his trial

  1. Ken Buck contradicts himself on whether the Russian election interference is "invented", depending on his audience. At a town hall in Longmont on April 17, 2017, Ken Buck was asked (at 24:27 in the video below) "At what point will the house of representatives back up and say we need to check our president?"

Buck's response was: "I am absolutely ashamed that Congress does not do anything when it comes to foreign intervention. It is an absolute disaster."

Note: Buck did not say that "foreign intervention" was a fiction invented by the media.

Bob Seay, Buck's 2016 opponent, pressed further: "What will it take for Congress to say, "There is a problem here. We spent millions of dollars investigating an email scandal that was nothing. And now we have a man in the White House who, some would argue, has a tenuous grasp on reality."

Buck's response: "Only when a high crime or misdemeanor occurs should congress act."

Now, we have a special counsel in place, Robert Mueller, whose job is precisely to investigate whether criminal activity occurred in collusion by the Trump campaign with the Russian government.

If Mueller finds evidence of collusion and criminal activity, it would bolster the case for impeachment for "High Crimes and Misdemeanors".

So what are high crimes and misdemeanors? Short answer: They are whatever the House of Representatives wants them to be.

Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about a blow job. Andrew Johnson was impeached for improperly firing a cabinet member.

Ken Buck, as a member of the house and a former prosecutor and attorney general, must decide at that point whether he follows the rule of law – or his expedient loyalty to the lawlessTrump regime.

    1. MJ

Every Dem in the know has stated that there is no evidence of Trump colluding with any foreign power. None.

That is why any reasonable person would conclude it is made up stuff.

Did others not fill out forms properly and omit information that should have been provided?  That seems to be the case for both the Trump campaign and the Clinton campaign.  My guess is Podesta ends up getting indicted as well as Flynn and/or Manafort.

The Comey saga is a joke.  Comey's problem is if he is serious in claiming that Trump did what the implication  is he claims in the memo, he was under an obligation to report it and he did not.  He is going to be forced to walk it back or he exposes himself.

      1. So, shill boy, the eight million bucks the russians paid to manafort which resulted in, among other things, eliminating criticism of Russia's seizure of the Crimea, ain't evidence?

Or Manafort was never your campaign manager?

Or there never was a Republican Convention?

      2. Ka-ching! Ka-ching!

Look at CarnHolio's rubles as they just keep pouring in!

Bang that drum, CarnHolio! Louder! Louder, comrade!

You'll certainly die rich! Soulless, hell-bound — but rich!

      3. Any reasonable person? So, not including the Justice Department's special counsel Mueller, the House and Senate Intelligence and  Committees, the Senate Judiciary Committee and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee?

No, none of those folks are reasonable people, nor are they "in the know". That's why they're all wasting time and taxpayer dollars on a wild goose chase. That's what fiscal conservatives do, right?

Those are all of the entities investigating possible Trump / Russia collusion.

And no, the smart Dems will not confirm or deny whether there is evidence of collusion. They will not comment about matters currently under investigation. And, AC, you can't have it both ways. You can't both assert that Dems are "making the Russia story up", and that Dems say that there is no evidence of collusion.

As far as non-partisan officials, former Director of National Intelligence Clapper will only say that British spy reports of Trump campaign/ Russia interactions were "accurate…and quite sensitive".
