For Liberty! For Solutions! For Crying Out Loud...

One of the criticisms of Republican Ryan Frazier and his bid for U.S. Senate is that he is far too inexperienced politically to run for one of the top jobs in Colorado. Nowhere is that more evident than this long-winded, nonsensical fundraising email (full text after the jump) that Frazier recently sent out.

This is the beginning of the email. No, seriously:

Dear Friend of Freedom,

My name is Ryan Frazier. I’m asking you to join my team as we work to take back Colorado’s U.S. Senate seat. For liberty! For solutions!

Friend of Freedom? For liberty? For solutions?

This is without a doubt the silliest campaign email we’ve seen in a long time. Next time, Ryan, you might have someone else read these things before you hit ‘Send.’

 

Dear Friend of Freedom,

My name is Ryan Frazier. I’m asking you to join my team as we work to take back Colorado’s U.S. Senate seat. For liberty! For solutions!

As I write you today, I’m reminded of three endearing qualities:

Honor. Courage. Commitment.

While assigned to the National Security Agency (NSA) as a member of the U.S. Navy, I came to truly understand the meaning of each of these values. Missions would fail and our country would be vulnerable if we did not live up to these high responsibilities. The lessons I learned and friendships I made while I served our country have shaped my role as a husband, father, small businessman, and public official.

On April 15th, I announced my candidacy for U.S. Senate. This campaign will be expensive, require a lot of sacrifice by my family and supporters, and it will be bruising as the National Democratic Party desperately tries to keep this seat to maintain a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority. We have an incredible opportunity to take back this Senate seat.

Over my lifetime, I have defied the odds at every turn. My mother worked to give me a chance to make it, having grown-up in the impoverished backstreets of our working-poor neighborhood. I know the road ahead will be daunting, but I am strengthened by the challenge.

For me, there are some principles that must be protected, promoted, and advanced: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are paramount to our safety and prosperity. Our children’s future and America’s exceptionalism are at risk, and I will not let them go down the path of socialism or any close variation.

I am ready to change the tone in Washington, but to do that we must change our tone here at home. Victory is ours when we offer new ideas and new leadership to get our country moving in a better direction:

limited and responsible government

low taxes and less intrusion

free trade and free markets

strong national defense

strict constructionist judges

energy independence and conservation

choice in education

affordable healthcare

and treating all humans with decency and respect

These are all fundamental to a better America.

Teetering towards the unknown, our country is accumulating unprecedented debt that will be passed to the next generation and their children. We all know that once you add a new layer of suffocating bureaucracy or expensive government programs, it becomes increasingly difficult to retract as time marches forward and people and institutions become dependent upon government. This must end before it becomes too late. We are racing dangerously towards $12 trillion in national debt and no one has figured out where the brakes are located.

I am ready to do my part. I am ready to fight for a more fiscally responsible federal government with less intrusion in the private sector. I want people to live their lives and run their business as they see best. Government should be lean, smart, and flexible enough to adapt to these transformative times. I am ready to promote personal responsibility and individual liberty so that we do not become an oppressive nanny state. Let Freedom ring!

The American people are the most innovative and resilient people on earth, and our children deserve better. We can change the path of America. We must work together.

    Pro-solutions? Check.

    The real question is: what are his stances on puppies and kittens? I’m guessing he’s for them, but I guess we’ll have to wait until the next campaign e-mail to be sure.

      1. Where does he stand on prosperity? How about the flag, does he like it or not? Is he in favor of rainbows?

        These are all questions we need the answers to.

  3. ask is not in the first paragraph, like it has to be, this isn’t a fundraising letter, it’s a bad stump speech with a meek “please can i haz some moneyz” at the very end

    i fell asleep reading this, and i have a high tolerance for silly posturing

    if you ask for “$5 or $500” you’re going to get $5, if you’re lucky

    i could list the grammatical errors, but i won’t even go down that road (also it’s full of cliche and incorrect idioms “if not now, then when?:)

    yikes, Bennett is a lucky guy.

  4. Right Pols?  I mean, now THAT’s a big no-no right?  But…HE’s your guy, and you get the $$ to take down guys like Frazier early, so I guess that the fun games keep on rolling around here for you jack asses.

    You used to be considered a “source” for information, now your partisan act has worn thin, and I say adios to even reading this shit anymore…ba bye.

      Blah, blah, blah. Enough with the whole “I’m never coming back here again because I don’t agree with this post” melodrama.

      And we’re getting paid to take down Frazier? Sure thing, pal. We didn’t write this grammatically-challenged fundraising appeal. We didn’t suggest that an unknown Aurora city councilman would be a good candidate for the U.S. Senate.

      But this is all our fault. Just like Bob Beauprez running the worst campaign in Colorado history was all our fault. Whatever. Your false rage is boring.

  5. Get an editor. Don’t let spell-check do all the work. While perhaps endearing, the Three Qualities are probably more enduring.

  7. People have a hard time begging others for money and it takes a bit of getting used to. The fact that he is awkward doing so actually speaks well of him as a human being (albiet, poorly of him as a campaigner).

    Yes it could be done better, but while it’s not terribly effective, it doesn’t do or say anything that reflects badly on him. A GOP candidate not hurting themself is an interesting phenomena.

    1. This letter certainly reflects badly on him. His numerous spelling and grammar errors speak to (1) his (in)attention to details, (2) his (in)ability to recognize his own weaknesses and seek input and advice from those with skills that complement his, and (3) his lack of care about his readers.

      When I have to use my time to determine that he meant ‘enduring’ not ‘endearing’ that is time in which I am not thinking fondly of the letter writer. This is not a good result if the letter writer is asking me to give him money. Somebody asking for my money should not start by wasting my time.

      And then there are all the damn cliches. Gag me with a spoon!

    2. You can write a first letter like this if you’re running for city council. But if you’re running the the U.S. freakin’ Senate, you damn well need to be more professional than this.

      1. My point is his first letter, when he’s 18 months out, can have room for major improvement. And that he didn’t do anything that will cause problems ongoing – which is a major improvement for a statewide GOP candidate in this state.

        Baby steps…

        1. What are you talking about? This guy’s running for the U.S. Senate. He’s been taking more than “baby steps” for the last eight years. This kind of amateur crap doesn’t cut it.
