Just when you thought things couldn’t get any weirder at the White House…

President Trump held his first solo press conference today, and as you’ll be reading and watching from every news outlet in the country, it was insane. You can watch the full presser via CNN, but here’s a summary from the Washington Post:

President Trump on Thursday aired his grievances against the news media, the intelligence community and his detractors generally in a sprawling, stream-of-consciousness news conference that alternated between claims that he had “inherited a mess” and the assertion that his fledgling administration “is running like a fine-tuned machine.”

“To be honest, I inherited a mess,” Trump said, in news conference that lasted more than an hour and was at times rambling, combative and pointed. “It’s a mess. At home and abroad, a mess. Jobs are pouring out of the country.”

Yet moments later, the president seemed to acknowledge the widespread reports of turbulence and upheaval emanating out of his West Wing, only to claim that his White House — which so far has been marred by staff infighting, a controversial travel ban, false statements and myriad leaks — was operating seamlessly.

“I turn on the TV, open the newspapers and I see stories of chaos — chaos,” he said. “Yet it is the exact opposite. This administration is running like a fine-tuned machine, despite the fact that I can’t get my Cabinet approved.” [Pols emphasis]

Uh, yeah. It almost seems like Trump is daring Congress to trot out the 25th Amendment.

Maybe Trump is really so clever and wily that he staged this nutso press conference to deflect attention away from his problems with Russia and Michael Flynn.

Maybe.

But at what point do we just start “calling a spade a spade” here? The President of the United States might very well be losing the last of his marbles…right in front of our eyes.

        1. More like Schadenfreude, Petie.  At having to watch your dear leader be as bumbling as those of us who opposed him knew he would be and at his little minions like you whine about how unfairly he's being treated.

          Your Supreme Leader is showing himself to be petulant, ignorant, racist, and as crazy as a rat in a coffee can, and you think it's tough on us?  

          I dunno about the rest of the Librulz, but I'm giggling my ass off, over here.

          1. You may think it's funny now to see Trump squirming and chafing in his wet diaper, but wait'll he trips while running through the halls and the football goes off!  Who'll be laughing then?

    1. After todays presser, anyone who cannot see the crazy just simply doesn't want to do so. All we can hope is the RNC will piss him off enough that he will want to punish them.

        President Trump’s approval rating is at 39 percent, according to a new poll.

        The latest Pew Research Center poll released Thursday shows Trump at a historic low compared with prior presidents in their first weeks in office.

        The poll found just 39 percent approve of his job performance while 56 percent disapprove.

            If Donald Trump does anything consistently well, it’s lying. But if lying to the American people could get a president impeached, he’d be gone already.

            Perjury, however, will get the job done. The trick will be to get Trump to lie under oath. The way to do that is simply to get him under oath. He’ll do the rest.

            To be sure, it won’t be easy to get Trump under oath. That would likely require him to testify as a witness or a defendant in a lawsuit. Or to testify under oath before a Congressional committee. While there are lots of ways a president can dodge testifying under oath, sometimes it can’t be avoided. Ask Bill Clinton.

            Keep in mind, though, that committing perjury under oath is not the only way to commit a crime by lying. Fraud, for instance, is a form of lying that can trigger criminal proceedings in the absence of an oath. So is lying to Congress. So is lying to the FBI. So is encouraging a witness to give false testimony.

            President Clinton’s impeachment, for instance, was based not only on the allegation that he perjured himself to the Ken Starr grand jury and in the Paula Jones civil case, but also that he encouraged witnesses to give false testimony, gave job assistance to a potential witness, and “corruptly allowed” his attorney to make false statements during a deposition.

            Given Trump’s penchant for lying, it’s not hard to imagine that this could be a path to impeachment. And the subject matter of his lies is bound to be far more serious than the subject matter of Clinton’s alleged lies.

            Nobody can predict what might end Trump’s presidency. If he becomes malignant enough, the American body politic will reject him. Congress will follow suit if members come to believe that Trump is infecting them too.

            Trump’s support from Congressional Republicans is a mile wide and an inch deep. If they turn on him, they can and will impeach him, even if the legal case is relatively weak. If they don’t, they won’t vote to impeach him even if the case is strong. That’s how it works.

            At the end of the day, grounds for impeachment is pretty much whatever Congress says it is. If Congress wants to get there, the paths are open.

              1. Pence and the Cabinet would have to impose it on Trump. I don't think they would have the guts barring a catatonic or whimpering Trump in the midst of a world crisis.

                Trump will never leave voluntarily, nor would he submit to a psych exam.  He enjoyed his 77 minute rant in front of the world yesterday.  He thinks it was a big victory.

                That’s how deranged he is, and as far as he’s concerned, the rest of the world is nuts, not himself.

                 

        2. But that number has been remarkably stable – across Rassy, Gallup, and now Pew. It appears that for the 40% that approve of Trump, facts are just not all that important. Trump won't really be in trouble until that number starts to drop.

    Was Trump clicking steel ball bearings? Did he express concern about missing strawberries in the White House kitchen?

  6. A suggestion for all – just read the transcript of the presser. 

    I didn't watch it or listen to it – just cannot stomach much of Dear Orange Leader. The transcript allows you to zero in on his chaotic, disturbed mind, without being sidetracked by pursed lips, weird orange hair, strange hand gestures, and 50-plus-pound overweight belly. 

    He's not doing well mentally. I seriously doubt his family will intervene. Will the GOP? Or do we have to face a national crisis first?

     

  7. I read advice not to attack Trump supporters, just Trump himself.  The most effective one I've found so far:  He's so ignorant that he just caves into the other world leaders when they meet or threatens them unreasonably.  I'm afraid he's making us look weak as a country. 

    Trumpsters do not want to look weak.

    1. Hmmm.  Let's see.  Trump lost the Popular Vote by almost 3 million votes.  Trump and the Republicans are trying to take healthcare away from the American People.  Americans of certain races are being adversely affected by Trump's Muslim Ban and persecution of non-white Americans, non-Christian Americans and GLBT Americans is on the rise, thanks to your people.  To say nothing of unconstitutional threats from people like Stephen Miller saying *45's power "Will Not Be Questioned".  Sounds totalitarian to me.  Also, the fact that *45's approval numbers are among the worst ever sported by a new President.  Almost seems like advocating against this "Administration" is advocating FOR the American people.  Sorry Petie.  We can't all be scared bedwetters that like to look tough on blogs to compensate for being small, scared little people.

       

      All the while we keep watching *45 and his team continually make asses of themselves, because there seem to be enough Americans who aren't putting up with this shit.

      1. Previously you have written about your self loathing for being white, white privilege and all that. Seems a bit self destructive. You continue with that line when someone post opposing views that it must be racist or some other white devil  pejorative that easily rolls off your keypad. I expect this from your response so it not shocking to me or anyone, pro or con on who post on this site. I suppose you derive some satisfaction from this, after all, it's all about you.

Oh Please Petie.  We know that in reality it's all about you and your sense that we should bow and scrape to your "strongman".  How dare we say Dear Leader is unfit to serve even though the evidence speaks for itself.  (Speaking out against the President means you are hurting America.)*

        2. Oh, damn. turned off the nopolstrolls extension, so saw this.  I read most of what Bowman posts – never saw any posts by him about white devils or white bread or white____________, self loathing, etc. So please cite your source, Pompous Pyrus.

          White privilege exists – I’ve just never seen Michael post about it. It’s not “self-loathing” to admit that skin color conveys some advantages and disadvantages in our society.

           On this day after the Day Without an Immigrant, what better day to sing the Immigrant Song? Yes, there were a few Viking palefaces commingling with Natives on the north American continent. Unwanted immigration is nothing new. 

          You, on the other hand, are getting incoherent again. Might be time to top off those fluids in the brain pan.

      Cares about everyone having access to a good job, cares about providing safe communities for all races of people, who cares about veterans, who cares about funding the military, who cares about cost effective healthcare, who cares about citizens more then the establishment or millionaires and billionaires, who is not in the pocket of special interest, who cares about fair trade deals, who cares about Israel, who cares about a secure boarder, who cares about killing Muslim extremist. You mean that madman.

      Really good! I mean bigly huge!

        1. What's a "secure boarder?"  I thought boarding houses went out of style with the Old West, only to be revived by Air BnB. 

          Military is over-funded. Just check out the F-35 fighter plane as a good example of a system that doesn't work. And the Navy just got a new super-carrier, a.k.a. sitting duck for Chinese ship-killer missiles against which we have no good defense. But, yes, the military-industrial complex does provide access to well-paying jobs.
