  1. We have elected a President who owes favors to a hostile foreign power. Russia.

Per the Washington Post’s reporting of CIA intelligence, We have allowed Russia to cast our election in the same authoritarian, anti-freedom mold that their own country struggles against. The bugaboo of my elementary school years, the enemy we would "duck and cover" from. The entity all of our WWII  and Korean and Cold War veteran parents and grandparents warned against. "The Russkies".

Now the conservatives, even on this blog, have switched sides. Suddenly, "the Russkies" are A-OK.  Instead, we need to watch out for the "Chi-coms" – Breitbart- speak for Chinese Communists.

China just happens to be Russia’s historic enemy, but our trading partner. So supporters of Trump are not only screwing with our domestic policy and seem intent on making America bankrupt and broke again, but are also doing their best to stir up international hostilities – which may be profitable for Exxon-Mobil, whose CEO, stunningly, is nominated as Secretary of State.

Our own congressional leadership knew of this Russian interference before the election – and the Republicans chose not to say anything, because it might hurt their candidate.

    There's a word for this – treachery.

    1. Gotta love that picture with the kids under the desks. Many on here didn't experience this but in the 1950's schoolkids had to do nuclear bombing drills in case the godless commie Ruskies started dropping the Big Ones on us.

In my grade school we had to go out in the hall, lean up against the wall with our heads facing the wall and hands over our heads for what seemed like hours (but was probably only about 10 minutes).

I could never figure out how this was going to save my ass from a nuclear blast, but hey, what better way to instill the fear of those godless commie Ruskies in an 8 year old.

      1. It wasa game in our school.  At recess in the gym somebody would flick the light switch to simulate a nuclear blast, yell "Duck and cover" and we'd all take cover to withstand the shock wave that would follow that flash of light.

        1. I think we did the hallway thing because our classrooms had large expanses of glass and being about 20 miles from Pittsburgh, which would presumably be ground zero, the shock wave would blow the windows in.

One of my uncles had a house built in the late 50’s with a bomb shelter in the basement.

    2. mm, I just want to correct you on one thing.  I agree that the Russians trying to influence our elections is a problem that needs immediate attention.  But Russia and China are not now enemies, they haven't been since the fall of the USSR.  They are currently partners in the "Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation", which is a economic and strategic treaty they signed in 2001.

  2. Denver Capitol Hill dwellers, is this story about Neo-Nazis at Colfax & Ogden anything new or same old Cap Hill? I've lived and worked all over the Denver area, pretty familiar with that neighborhood. It never was exactly safe, and plenty of creeps around, not even counting drunk yuppies.

If the Neo Nazis are "sweeping the streets", who is getting "swept up"?

        1. devil No, Pyrus. They'll still let you in, as long as you don't disturb the peace, threaten suicide, sell and use narcotics, vandalize stuff, etc. Those are just some of the items on the Neo-Nazi's rap sheet. This is why the neighbors want none of them.

But you can go to the bars in drag, wearing your MAGA hat, and all you'll get is funny looks, and possibly a friend for the night.

  3. Healthy soils are a key component to combating our anthropogenic carbon dioxide levels.  It's argued by some in the scientific community that if we hadn't destroyed half of the world's soil carbon over the past century we could absorb the dangerous atmospheric levels we have today.  Peak Soil is upon us.

This past week NASA announced the launch of our first geostationary vegetation, atmospheric carbon mission.  What a great use of science and our federal assets to quantify our assets and liabilities in the natural world.

Let's hope TeamTrump doesn't target this division of NASA – as he pivots away from Planet Earth and turns his focus to Mars…
