The Beauty of Self-Parody: How the CO Senate Republicans write their own snark

( - promoted by Colorado Pols)

Of late its been difficult to add snark to the Senate Republican's once, twice, sometimes three times a day, news releases all with the same message: Senate Republicans lose another "key" vote.

So I guess it's time to change up the message and go on the attack, according to a story in the Rocky Mountain News:

Ritter is one of four Democratic governors invited to a Democratic Congressional retreat in Williamsburg, Va.

"I hope you will reconsider your decision to support the so-called stimulus package and, more importantly, your decision to attend - and thus endorse - this junket," Senate Republicans wrote in a letter initiated by Sen. Ted Harvey, R-Highlands Ranch.

"It's bad enough that you plan to lobby for passage of this stimulus package, whose price tag has now grown to more than $1 trillion ... . But for you to join congressional Democrats on this taxpayer funded vacation at a time when millions of Americans are losing their jobs send an even more destructive message to the people of our state," Republicans wrote.

ClubTwitty :: The Beauty of Self-Parody: How the CO Senate Republicans write their own snark
First of all, being one of four governors invited to go to the retreat of the party currently in control of both houses of Congress and the White House, while the same are negotiating the terms of a huge stimulus package that could potentially bring thousands of jobs to your state seems like, on balance, a damn good thing.

I bet the Governator wishes he had been invited. But the kicker is that the GOP senators are wrong, the Rocky continues:

Dreyer said Ritter left for the retreat Thursday night and is scheduled to fly back this afternoon. The trip was paid for by the House Democratic Caucus and not by Colorado taxpayers.

Regardless, it's good to see Bill Ritter looking out for Colorado:

President Barack Obama singled Ritter out when he addressed retreat goers Thursday night.

"This plan will provide sensible tax relief for the struggling middle class, and unemployment insurance and continued health care coverage for those who've lost their jobs," Obama said.

"And it will help prevent our states and local communities - it will help Governor Ritter and Governor (Ted) Strickland (of Ohio) not have to lay off firefighters and teachers and police. Because when they get laid off, not only do we lose services, but maybe they can't make payments on their home. Maybe they get foreclosed on and the economy goes down further."

And it's truly hilarious that while the Governor is off stumping for Colorado jobs, the Senate Republicans are at home, busy shooting themselves in the feet.  Collectively and all together.

Governor Ritter's trip was...
A good thing for a governor to do
A travesty worthy of a news release

Let me get this straight...
The Republicans are mad that Ritter is making an effort to save jobs and turn the economy around? Wow, I can see their slogans in '10 - "End our return to jobs & prosperity - vote GOP."

Got to give them credit for honesty - they want the economy to tank.

Where you gonna go for business reporting software?

David your points are well taken
Bottom line, the Republicans in the Colorado House and Senate are against the FASTER bill and they are against the stimulus package in Washington, DC. They are hoping for and betting on failure of the Democrats plans to salvage and rejunvinate our economy while literally millions of people have lost their jobs and are now worried to death about keeping thier homes and educating their children or taking care of elderly parents.

In the face of the real and present national emergency, the Republicans tactics and obstructionism is not only cold and despicable but frankly endangers the economic well being of our individual citizens and the national security of our nation. Without a strong economy, we cannot defend our nation.

What President Obama and Governor Ritter are doing is a valiant attempt to stop the slide and turn our economy around and, at the end of the day, preserve our American Way of life.

The real question is what is State Senator Harvey doing to preserve our American Way of life during this emergency?  I can answer in one word - nothing.

They also endanger us business owners
I'm trying to figure out who exactly they are trying to appeal to with their attempts to turn the recession into a depression. This makes no sense politically.

The Republicans truly have nothing -- for now.
No useful public policy in the past few years.  Even ideology has failed them.  All they have left is stomping their feet and obstructing the majority party.  I wish it were different.  Better public policy comes out of the legislative (sausage-making) process when both major political parties are functional.

Does this mean...
...Sen. Harvey is turning down any of the stimulus money that otherwise would go to his district? Can I have dibs on it for northwest Denver?

Twitty you're dead on
Senate Republicans lose another key vote -- though you didn't mention they always lay it at the feet of "the ruling Democrats." It must be hard being in the minority, and having such ineffectual whiners to publicize.

Good Republicans/Bad Republicans
Bush spends like a drunken Obama Democrat, and it earns him years of leftist abuse and (deservedly) the destruction of his party in Congress that voted for it.

Now, some Republicans actually talk and act like Republicans -- NO pork and deficit spending, less government and lower taxes, not fake "stimulus" spending on unions and bureaucrats -- and you think it's a mistake.

Go Ted!  A good Republican.

Lay it on, lambykins.

ciao

Go Ted?
Ted Haggard just doesn't have the influence with your leaders like he used to, sad to say.

Sorry, this should have gone here:

Haggard, somewhat like the previous poster, was a wimpy political puke who, unlike said poster, may have learned his lesson... now that the world found out he was (and liked) a putz.

Translation of Ted Harvey remarks:

Dear Governor Ritter,

I really wish that you and your Democratic Party hadn't taken over the state government of Colorado.  You are showing so much more foresight and concern for the citizens of this state as to embarrass we numbnut Republicans who used to run everything.  How we got there in the first place is beyond my capacity to fathom.  Overcome with contempt for the people of the state and consumed by our small partisan ambitions we squandered  political opportunities left and right.  It didn't help that the occupant of the White House, our role model, was a bigger simp than the rest of us.  And the serious politicos among, those of us who weren't trying to outchurch the Democrats with our vapid moral palaver or crush the unbelievers (RINOS) in our midst, had to take a back seat.  Like our President, we never left the frat house.  To quote our master, Frank Burns, "How were we supposed to know what the right thing was?"

I wish that you, the legislative leadership in the General Assembly and Congressional Democrats would come to be ridiculous as we Republicans.  Otherwise, unless my partisan cohort and I grow some sense and people skills, we'll NEVER have a fair chance to take over the reins of government, maybe even ever!  Our larger project of grinding the state into a pulp will have to wait until then.  Meanwhile we will continue to make noise, pose down for Rush Limbaugh and Mike Rosen, and hope that fate will cause the Big Boys in our Party to tap for cushy, do-nothing jobs as FEMA Director, US Attorney General and/or oil and gas lobbiests.

I have a question for thos who bless words and things...
Is this correct, from

"It's bad enough that you plan to lobby for passage of this stimulus package, whose price tag has now grown [bigger than a self-grandiose elephant]..."
               Sen. Ted Harvey (R-Wonderland)?

I mean, it's not really a whose, is it?

Unless....It's alive...

Since the tag is a noun, I'd go for "which"
But I"m no English major....

yeah...
I'd go with, "the price tag of which..."

And I was an English major...but we didn't bother with silly things like words and grammar...  :)
