Did McCain thwart DEA investigation of Cindy?

OpenLeft just broke this story
about a whistleblower who worked with Cindy McCain at her charity. He is coming forward with information about John McCain using his political influence to keep her out of trouble following her prescription drug theft scandal.

Today, Tom Gosinski, her former employee and a close friend of the McCain's, came out on the record about the entire sordid episode.  And it appears that McCain used his Senate staff and resources to cover up Cindy's drug use, and potentially to prevent the Drug Enforcement Agency from investigating his wife's theft of illegal prescription drugs.  John McCain certainly used his political connections to begin a campaign of intimidation against Gosinski, because at the time - this was after the Keating 5 scandal - another major scandal would have derailed his career.  Gosinski stayed quiet out of fear until today; a recent fight with cancer has strengthened his resolve.

It will be interesting to see if the mainstream media runs with this. More -- including a video interview with the whistleblower -- available at OpenLeft.

Poll
Will this story matter?
Meth -- it's bad and taking off
Ecstacy -- some will get worked up, but it'll fade
Marijuana -- not as bad as it's made out to be
Painkiller -- people will be numb to it
Alcohol -- it'll spark an all out political brawl

Why would anyone care about Cindy McCain's
known drug problems.  We all know that if it was Theresa Heinz-Kerry it would be a big story but Cindy McCain stealing prescription drugs from a charity isn't going anywhere.  Bill Clinton trying to hide a blow job is a big story but John McCain trying use his influence to suppress stories about his druggie wife is perfectly acceptable.  Yeah fair and balanced media.

It will be interesting to see if the Right punches back too
Channeling Drudge I am picking up the following desire 'uncover' a story like ...

Today, [insert name of former Public Allies, TUCC or other Obama organization member], a former employee and a close friend of the [insert Obama tie in], came out on the record about the entire sordid episode.  And it appears that [insert Obama] used his [insert Obama community organzation] and resources to cover up [insert Obama's own] drug use, and potentially to prevent the [insert NYC or Hawaii 5-0 or Chicago Police from catching his public transactions] from investigating his [repeated purchase] of illegal [delete prescription] drugs.  [insert Obama] certainly used his [insert community organization name] connections to begin a campaign [insert of repeated purchase and use of illegal drugs].  [insert Obama inside source name] stayed quiet out of fear until today; a recent [insert dramatic reason for coming out of the closet so late] strengthened his resolve.

No one will care....
in fact, just the opposite.  Anyone reporting it will be accused of sexism because it involves a female republican.  Furthermore, John McCain was showing his chivalry in defending her honor and did we mention he was a POW?

Your links don't work.
Do you have another link to the story?

"I wouldn't characterize caloric intake as "professional development." c rork

I thought
families were off limits. Or does that not include potential first ladies?

It's not about the family
It's about McCain using his position to influence an investigation - something he also seems to have done as head of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to slow down the Abramoff scandal.

But that won't be the republican spin
They'll portray it as an attack on poor 'lil Cindy. Never mind that republicans make stuff up in order to attack Michelle Obama.

Republicans are whining about everything...
They whine when we point out they're lying.  They whine when we point out they're in bed with lobbyists.  They whine when we point out their whining.

Their campaign strategists are like bullies who've just met someone that will stand up to them.  They're so used to Democrats as cheese-eating surrender monkeys that they can only pout when they don't get their way.

It's not the Democrats
they're whining about so much as the press. That's the cheese-eating surrender monkeys the McCain camp is used to rolling over.

[ Parent ]
They're used to their whining working on the press
And I think the blog-o-sphere has a lot to do with the change. When the MSM rolls over now, they are held up to public ridicule via the blogs and that forces them to be more honest - at least some of the time.

Families are fair game again...
ever since Marilyn Musgrave released the attack ad on her father.

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

That ad was so pathetic...
and as U2 said we stoop so low to reach so high.

" The webinar is free, however, there are only 250 spaces available "

Some douche

[ Parent ]
The ad...
isn't the only "pathetic" thing about the Musgrave Campaign.  The candidate is pretty pathetic also...running for your fourth term and suddenly you feel compelled to do an "introductory" ad to your constituents...and in the process attack you dad as an alcoholic.

Pathetic.

It's probably
the vast GLBT conspiracy against MM.

I always thought it was the Republican mantra
that the cover up is more important than the crime.  I guess a cover up is only important if it is the other guy who is doing it.
