"Bring Out Your Dead!"..."I'm Not Dead Yet!"

by: Colorado Pols

According to The Washington Post blog The Fix, Colorado's 4th district is now the 16th most likely to switch hands in 2008:

16. Colorado's 4th district (R): By far the biggest oversight on our most recent Line was the exclusion of this Colorado seat held by Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R) since 2002. Despite its strong Republican leanings -- President Bush won it with 58 percent in 2004 -- Musgrave is a consistent underperformer, and faces a well-funded opponent in Democrat Betsy Markey. This is a major weak spot for Republicans. (Previous ranking: N/A)

Musgrave has been counted out before and come back to win by narrow margins, but the conventional wisdom seems to be that 2008 is the year she finally loses. Republican Rep. Cory Gardner is still openly talking about running for CD-4 in 2010 and tells anyone who will listen that Musgrave is a likely loser this time around.

The Rothenberg Political Report also has CO-4 in the "Pure Toss Up" category, with a slight lean for the Democrat.

It has also been rumored that the NRCC told Musgrave that they wouldn't be doing much to help her this year, but those rumors are often spread to spur candidates to raise more money themselves.

NRCC & Cory G
Has Cory been approached by the NRCC? It could be part of their strategy to roll over on Marilyn this year to get a more solid R in there in 2010. Like, one that doesn't cost millions of dollars every cycle to keep in office. In a Republican district.

Perhaps
We've said before that even if Markey wins in 2008, she's almost guaranteed to lose re-election in 2010 if Republicans find a more moderate, likable candidate. CD-4 is a Republican district.

if we (and Betsy Markey) are really lucky......
...there will be a very bloody and expensive primary between Hillman, Gardner, and Taxasaurus Rex (a/k/a Brophy) for the GOP nod in CD 4.

Beauprez?
Maybe he'd carpetbag to the 4th like he did to the 7th...

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

there's that smell again.......election must be coming around

The NRCC will not be riding to the rescue
Their coffers are almost completely tapped from mid-season special elections (that they lost).  They can't defend everything, and if Musgrave looks like she's going down the tubes, they'll find somewhere better to spend their limited cash.

"We're below sharks and contract killers." -- Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), speaking on Congress's 9% approval rating

I know, I know....
My "strident" and vociferous anti-Republican message here  (to be fair, it's only been since GWB and the egregious b.s. of the last eight years), is not always given much weight. That said, I have a feeling that the press is working hard to be non-critical of McCains flip flops, errors, lack of knowledge of economics etc., and to put out a message that hey, Republicanism is not as bad as they've been painted over the last eight years. I'd like to believe that the intelligence quotient of the American people is on the rise (LB, AS, sj and others excluded)and that come election day, Musgrave and others like her will be beaten. Republican people can return to their party, when their party returns to the people.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble and reclaim the commons. Stop the militarization of America.

No, you don't.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!  My side!  I'm sure you were just middle-of-the-road pre-W.

No wonder nobody listens to you.  Have you ever posted a single entry that used reason without having to insult anyone?

You kind of define 'liberal elitism' in that everyone, no matter how civil that disagrees with you is "stupid".

There really is middle ground, sir.

Now, why don't you use your superior IQ and "strident" wisdom and tell me again how you "fucked my wife".  That was really a good one, and showed your great powers of reason and morality in a debate.

[ Parent ]
Why don't you follow up with something reasonable?
And by the way, I've never met your wife, and don't want to. Can you bring up a post where I said that? I'm impressed by your sensitive side....and your long memory!

This post is classic LB. Can you find evidence that eight years ago I was just as stridently anti-Republican. Didn't think so. You're one of the Republican ilk that gives all Republicans a bad name.

[ Parent ]
Really?
Do you deny saying that about my wife?  I'll find it if I have to.

She'd love to meet you.

[ Parent ]
Middle Ground?
You only know it exists because others have told you about it...you certainly have never visited it yourself.

...that's actually a good description of Arvada!

....kidding!  :-)

I'm not as sweet as I used to be.

[ Parent ]
Oh, really?
Maybe it's my pro-gay marriage stance that causes you to think so.

[ Parent ]
Pro gay marriage isn't middle ground, LB
It's left. Civil Unions is middle ground. Right is that all gays are going to hell. But if you're pro gay marriage, I give you credit for not being knee-jerk right.  Good for you.
As for your wife, she and I are just good friends and there is nothing whatever improper about our relationship.
Seriously, if Sir R did say that, well, from time to time he has been known to dive off the deep end of the pool -- after we've drained it!

[ Parent ]
lots of knives
et tu Ken Buck
et tu Cory Gardner
et tu Mark Hillman

Marilyn Musgrave must be getting really worried as all her friends actually want her job.

If Markey wins, still a big IF, the GOP Primary in 2010 will be a bloody one.
Really bloody as a lot of ambitious Republicans will know this is there only shot at going to Congress. Markey may actually be able to hang on in 2010 and hope that reapportionment is good to her.
