Anyone Else?
Does anyone think there could have been a stronger candidate in this Republican Primary?

What did Coffman do
to piss off the Trailhead guys? This is a serious question, as Coffman is pretty much the most popular Republican statewide and strongest candidate the Republicans have for a major office. Yet there's such contempt for him. He's been a good soldier all these years, why the dislike?

[ Parent ]
SOS
R's don't like the fact that if he wins, Ritter can apoint a Dem to his position.

[ Parent ]
Yeah I get that
but find it hard to believe that accounts for the depth of dislike. Democrats certainly didn't turn on Salazar for giving up the AG's office. I understand the 6th is a safe Republican seat, so it's not strictly comparable, but everyone knows Coffman has had his eye on that seat forever, too.

[ Parent ]
this goes back further......
He was all set to run for Guv in '06 but the folks over at Snakehead went out and recruited Both Ways in order to stop Coffman.
Coffman's a bright guy and probably figured, why run a difficult and expensive primary campaign only to face a long-shot, difficult and expensive general election campaign.
Coffman probably would not have won against Ritter in '06, but he would have run a much closer race.

[ Parent ]
Coffman
I do support Coffman. I was just asking if there may have been a stronger candidate.

[ Parent ]
the perennial GOP candidate....John Elway?

[ Parent ]
The other oft-mentioned, Frances Owens?

[ Parent ]
What would Jesus poll?

I'm not as sweet as I used to be.

[ Parent ]
it depends........would he be supporting building the fence along the Mexican border?

[ Parent ]
Coffman for Governor
Does anyone think Coffman may run for Governor later?

Yes
But not for six years. The only surprise is he didn't run in '06, he would have outperformed Beauprez easily. Colorado hasn't unseated an incumbent governor for something like 50 years, so I bet Coffman waits until Ritter is termed.

[ Parent ]
Coffman for Governor
I believe he was serving in Iraq this last go around.

[ Parent ]
Its because Coffman runs against the ANOINTED ONES
and then the ANOINTED ONES go down in flames and make the anointiers look stupid, so they project it on li'l mikey.

Maybe this year
but Coffman has no history of that, he didn't face primaries for SoS, or for treasurer twice, or his state Senate seats.

Is it just that he's getting in the way of Bill's goal of finally finding a career for his son?

[ Parent ]
Progressives for Coffman!
Which candidate do you want to win?
and
who will win?
are two very different questions; however, my answer is the same for both.  I am a liberal that previously resided in CD-6 and I want Coffman to get the nomination so we can get someone decent in the SOS office.  Because a Republican will win CD-6, it might as well be one the creates a position for a Democrat somewhere else.  It will also be nice to not have a Tom Tancredo representing our state.

my feelings exactly
Coffman, warts and all, is still an improvement over Tanc.  And opening up the SOS Office for a Dem is just a nice fringe benefit.

[ Parent ]
I'd like to see Steve Ward get it
He's totally up front about being a moderate Republican - I'd love to see someone campaigning from the middle win. It would be a big step on the Republican party moving back to a set of principles that helps the country rather than hurts it.

With that said, I think Mike Coffman will do a good job too. And we do need to get him out of the SoS office which he has done a lousy job in.

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

Martha Kreutz tried that in '98.....
I think she finished in 2nd or 3rd place (out of five candidates) and only a couple of percentage points behind Tanc.  IIRC, the top three finishers were in the mid 20% range.

[ Parent ]
I want coffman
I want coffman to win the congressional seat solely because that will give the Democrats the Secretary of State position which is more important then most recoginize and a great stepping stone to other state wide office.

If Coffman wins the primary
it'll be the first time in living memory a Colorado secretary of state ascended to higher office. It's not a "stepping stone" the way attorney general or state treasurer have been. But it'll be interesting to see how a Democrat handles the office, since it's been held by Republicans continuously since the 1960s.

[ Parent ]
I've seen Coffman's TV commercial (not bad with his white hair matching the stars in the American flag in the background)
And I saw a small part of A.R.M.strong's commercial night.  It showed the numbers moving on a gas pump, something I see quite frequently in real life, thank you.
Has anyone seen the Ted Harvey's commercials yet? Are there any?

For the greater good...
I'm all for getting to appoint the Secretary of State, but as someone who grew up in the 6th I'd much rather have a good Representative.  Politics aside, doesn't anyone here think Armstrong would just do a better job?

Is that a trick question?
I haven't seen anything that indicates Armstrong would do even a barely competent job, much less better. After this election, Coffman will be by far the best Republican in Congress from Colorado.

[ Parent ]
Wouldn't Armstrong do better?
No, not a chance. In fact I think we would be better served by any of the other three. Armstrong claims to have "business" experience but truth be told, every business he's been a part of has been a result of his dad. Coffman, Harvey and Ward all have a much more diverse background. With only three weeks left I think the only question is who comes in 2nd - 4th and how much does Coffman win by. My guess is 15 points.

Steve Ward
He is the only one who isn't littering the side of the roads with hundreds of "yard" signs. I have only seen his signs in private yards, so it seems he is at least making an effort to talk to people. In many cities in CD6 it is illegal to put signs in the right-of-ways of busy streets. The other guys seem to have no problem breaking the law so that they can be elected to make the laws. Seems oxymoronic to me.

Anyone watch the Channel 12 debate?
Taped last week, aired Monday night on Denver's KBDI Channel 12, and available on the website http://www.kbdi.org

The most striking thing was how not-read-for-prime-time Wil Armstrong appeared, smugly mouthing a handful of platitudes without appearing to understand any of the topics in depth. He appeared to have read his own brochures and memorized a few lines. He would be a disaster in Congress. All those celebrity endorsers ought to be ashamed.
