Owens and Armstrong, Sittin' in a Tree...

by: Colorado Pols

Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 12:55:56 PM MDT

Republican Wil Armstrong, who is running for congress in CD-6, today announced an online video of support from former Gov. Bill Owens. If you listen closely at the end, you can almost hear Owens saying, "Was that okay, Bill?"

Also included in today's announcement, which you can read after the jump, is a clever new short bio of the man formerly known as a Mortgage lender:

Armstrong is currently the CEO of software developer Blueberry Systems in Greenwood Village.  He is running to succeed retiring Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Armstrong Releases Owens Video of Support

Cites Armstrong's business experience during time of economic turbulence

Centennial, CO - Former Governor Bill Owens released a short video clip today reaffirming his support for Wil.  In these economically turbulent times, Governor Owens understands the priority to have a representative in Congress who has first hand experience creating jobs, dealing with increasing healthcare costs, and managing intrusive government regulation and taxes.

Can you say Ref C?
I don't think that putting Owens out front will play well in a Republican primary.  Owen's should endorse Polis or some other person if he really wants to make a diffence.

I think this is just Bill Armstrong calling in the Chitts
From Owens, Allard, Musgrave, Lamborn, Andrews, etc...

He has alot of IOU's out there and many of these folks owe their political fortunes to former Sen. Armstrong.

At the end of the day Wil will need to run on his own merrits.

Agreed
Anyone who has been following this race knows Coffman can and will win this primary. The Republican voters of CD6 will see through this B.S. and support the candidate who is deserving and most qualified. Wil is not that guy.

[ Parent ]
Before this is over.......
....all of the movers and shakers at the Trailhead Foundation will weigh in for Lil A.R.M.strong.
The same folks who gave us Pete Coors, Both Ways, and Mitt Romney will go all out for Wil.
The smart money remains on Coffman who's going to walk away with the nomination.

[ Parent ]
Where's Bob?
It's puzzling that Sponsor Bill hasn't called in any chits yet from one of his biggest projects, Bob Schaffer. It's time for Schaffer to step up to the plate, say the hell with Coffman's supporters, and put his mouth where the money is.

[ Parent ]
he'll have to run that by Dicky first

put his mouth where the money is
Love it

Couldn't have said it better polls
There isn't a rational person on earth who will actually believe that Gov. Owens, or any other credible elected official, would endorse Will if it weren't for his old man. Period. There have been rumors that many of the elected officials who will endorse Armstrong have said privately that Will never even asked for their endorsement, but that Bill demanded it for all his years of support.  This is a desperate attempt by a guy with absolutely no record to try to gain credibility on the backs of others who do. As for the new resume, I guess former head of a mortgage lending lobby that fought all regulation that has subsequently put Colorado in the top ten for number of foreclosures, didn't exactly test well in their poll.

Daddy….can I pleeease go to Congress now?
I though it was the mother who had the umbilical cord. Without Bill, Wil would not even be a credible candidate for the Greenwood Village City Council. I wonder what the A.R.M.strong shills are going to say now that the "career politicians" are endorsing their guy. I guess it's only bad to be a "career politician" if you're running against him, not if you support him. What a joke.

The video link from the Armstrong release
is wrong (no period at the end)

Here's the link to Wil's home movies:

This is funny because Coffman followed Owens every step of the way, from the Aurora Planning Commission into Bill's seats in the legislature each time Owens ascended, and then into the Treasurer's office. Guess Owens knows which side the bread is buttered on, though.

Owens and Coffman
had a chilly relationship when they were gov and treasurer respectively. Coffman's opposition to Ref C did nothing to warm it up.

[ Parent ]
Sure
but Owens's endorsement of Armstrong specifically because he doesn't have the kind of career Coffman has had is hypocritical because Coffman had the exact same path as Owens (down to the same offices).

I know, I know, shocked, shocked I tell you, to find hypocrisy among emeritus politicians. But this is particularly brazen.

[ Parent ]
any more brazen......
....than his '04 endorsement of Sweatshop one day and his endorsement of the Beer Baron on the following day?

[ Parent ]
It's at least a tie
No one ever claimed Bill Owens falls short when it comes to brazenly political moves.

[ Parent ]
Has Nothing to do with It
Owens felt obligated to endore Wil based on everything his dad did for him. This is just like all the other endorsements Wil will get. They feel obligated to Bill or think he will help line their pockets. It has nothing to do with Wil or Coffman or anyone else. Its all about Daddy Bill.

[ Parent ]
Big Bill is doing so well
with his other protegee, Bob Schaffer, this year. A father shouldn't have to pick one, but in this case, Big Bill should have.

[ Parent ]
Blueberry Systems
Just another example of Bill taking care of little Wil. Take a look at Blueberry's Executive team, http://www.blueberrysystems.co... I'll bet there isn't a line on Wil's resume that doesn't have Bill's fingerprints on it.

You mean...
Wil didn't found Blueberry Systems or start his own mortgage business, or start any business by himself? He's running on the campaign of not being a career politician yet his dad served for over 18 years. Wil talks about all these things yet deserves the credit for none of them. Wil says we need more doctors, teachers, ranchers and veterinarians in Congress; yet he is none of those. I say what does Wil really stand for? My guess is he will be the worst of all politicians. One that caters to the interests of lobbyists and self-interested individuals who have supported his campaign.

Do you talk to yourself often?
Or are you two just REALLY close friends?
Or is it just a coincidence that Devo and Joe Dirte created identities within 2 minutes of each other?

Cherry Creek Mortgage website: http://www.cherrycreekmortgage...

You see that picture of Wil on the Cherry Creek Mortgage page?
What a dork. He's trying so hard to look like his dad. I've got news for you Wil, you resume and policies are nothing like ones of your honorable father.

[ Parent ]
Silver cherry creek spoon in the mouth
He looks like the typical idiot son.  Kind of reminds me of Holtzman for some reason.

" The webinar is free, however, there are only 250 spaces available "

Some douche

[ Parent ]
Wow looks like
the same Wil who was chairman of the Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association in 2005 and in 2006. This organization had successfully fought off any regulation of the mortgage industry during a time when Colordo was among 10 states in mortgage fraud. Thanks, in part, to Wil's efforts, Colorado emerged in 2006 as the number one state in foreclosures. A little regulation would have gone a long ways in helping Colorado's families. Thaaaaanks Wil.

[ Parent ]
Time to ween from the teet Willy
or in this case man boob. If you dad had never sunk thousands of dollars into Governor Owens' campaigns then you would never have gotten this endorsement. Owens sold out the Republican Party with his support of Ref C. He just did it again with this weak home video supporting your wannabe Bill campaign.

This is irrelevant because
Wil is not the best candidate in this race. Hell, he's not even the 2nd best candidate in this race. He has no experience and his message sucks. All he has is his dad's coattails and his dad's money. I guess we'll see how far that takes him.

Wil Armstrong & Ali Hassan
Our two "Daddy, buy me a legislative seat" candidates.

So does Wil actually get votes from these forced endorsements? People here know the back story but do the huddled masses? I don't see any way Wil wins - but does he make Coffman vulnerable?

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

Won't hurt
I think it will help marginally maybe a net 3%-5% when you add all the endorsements up Allard/Owens/Musgrave but with no experience to speak of and up against a top flight oppoinent in Coffman I still see Coffman winning by double digits.

The question is how and when Bill Armstrong unleashes the 527 dogs like he did against Coors.
