Good spot
Thought he looked good, hit all the key themes. Not sure how Harvey and Armstrong are going to combat (no pun intended)the Militry record, that will be huge in the 6th CD.

Thanks for posting
I never would have seen that ad on local TV. Routine, and I doubt the effectiveness of the military pitch. Where is Coffman on health care, taxes, the economy, ethanol, drilling for oil, the obscene farm bill, illegal immigration, etc.?

[ Parent ]
It's just an introduction
He's the guy who's served his country and can proudly stand in front of a flag. Not the guy with all the voting machine problems, which is probably how most vaguely informed voters associate with Mike Coffman, if they have much of an impression at all. The ad does a good job.

[ Parent ]
As much as I support the military, I think it shouldn't be used as a prop
People who have served in the military are no smarter or more patriotic than those who haven't. And Coffoman's views on Iraq, which he published after he returned, showed how the military can indoctrinate its officers. He said we couldn't win the war militarily, but had to win the hearts, or something to that effect. I found that pathetic.

[ Parent ]
Yeah, I support Coffman, the the military stuff
turns me off.

[ Parent ]
Excellent
Great, Positive Add.

This race is over
How are Harvey and Armstrong going to overcome Coffman's name id? Coffman's is significantly greater than both of theirs and he is already on TV and the radio.

Haha
Man was that predictable. I like how they hit you with different talking points depending on if you're reading or listening. He lowered taxes and balanced his check book (and shouldn't lowering taxes be a bigger priority??)!

Decent production value, but where exactly was he supposed to be at the end in front of that American flag? Has he really given that speech where together we can make America stronger?

I'm being snarky. It's not bad and I'm sure the competition will do worse.

He was obviously someplace where they weren't listening...
... since they were applauding while he was in the middle of a sentence.

Or gosh, maybe just maybe it was an applause track?

"Why not do the right thing for the American people, even though it's not exactly what we want." - Speaker Boehner

[ Parent ]
Looking forward to reasonable representation for a change
As a 6th CD resident who's had to endure that nattering numbskull Tom Tancredo for nearly 10 years, it'll be wonderful to have a pragmatic, responsible, ADULT representing us in Congress for a change.

"Why not do the right thing for the American people, even though it's not exactly what we want." - Speaker Boehner

it's a win-win situation
When Coffman gets in, the quality of representation improves dramatically (even though he's still a right winger), plus Andrew Romanoff takes over as Sec. of State.
The only thing better would be if a Dem could actually win that district this time around.

[ Parent ]
Not sure that would be better
We need a 2 party system and Coffman is the one bright spot the GOP has. He's got his problems but he's worlds better than anything else out there.

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

[ Parent ]
Coffman is a bright spot
but I'm not sure I'd go that far, that he's worlds better than anyone else in state Republican Land. John Suthers seems like a good guy. The legislature has plenty of decent folk. Hank Brown and Joel Hefley had their integrity. For some reason, they usually promote their nut cases or potted plants up to Congress, though. (Lamborn, Musgrave, Tancredo, Schaffer, Allard.)

[ Parent ]
it's because the C.D.s are drawn in such uncompetitive ways
Because the districts are not competitive, they become little more than right wing primaries (or in the cases of CD and CD 2, left wing primaries).
It's usually the nut cases that pander best to the ideological fringes.
Remember, McGinnis was something of a RINO (and when he first ran, so was Both Ways) because CD 3 (and CD 7) were competitive.

[ Parent ]
Run to the right
Sure, and especially since primaries moved to August, if you can turn out your most fervent base, you can win a primary.

But the 3rd CD wasn't that competitive when McInnis first ran, it had been a reliably Republican district since the 1982 redistricting. For those two decades, even the 2nd CD had more competitive numbers.

[ Parent ]
Good spot
Is anyone up right now in the 2nd or 5th? Might be a smart strategy for Coffman to get up before all the 527's and other campaigns.

.
In the voice over in the commercial it says "Creating Jobs" but on the screen it says "lower taxes". Can someone explain to me how that is related?... Oh wait they just wanted to throw lowering tax bait onto the screen somehow.

Soundbites
The whole balence a budget and meet a payroll and create jobs bits are all origionally soundbites from Armstrong. Coffman is trying to push him out by taking his unique business aspect.

[ Parent ]
Really?
I was originally supporting Wil Armstrong till I heard him at a debate the other night. I thought he would be more like his dad. He is nothing like him.  He actually said if you want someone who knows how to get a bill from point A to point B then I am not your man. Isn't that what a Congressman is supposed to do?

[ Parent ]
Did Armstrong ever create jobs or did he get one from his Dad?
Looking at his resume all of Armstrong's jobs, were he has been in leadership have been for companies his father owns.

Nothing wrong with that but hardly makes him a risk taker like guys who start their own companies.

Agreed
Not mention that Armstrong played a huge role in creating the mortgage crisis we now face. Is he better at creating jobs or helping people loose their homes while he makes a buck off them?

[ Parent ]
Mortgage bankers should be helping people stay in their homes
They shouldn't be running for Congress, of all things.

[ Parent ]
Good introductory TV add but
I don't know why he is spending his money now unless he has another poll going into the field in a week or so.  Other than for that reason, he is wasting his money.

It's to flush out
the voting machine problems, which is the only Coffman news in the last year. The 6th CD assembly is upcoming too. Show of strength for delegates.

[ Parent ]
Expensive but mediocre
Really a very mediocre commercial. It has no originality at all.

Mike, apply your campaign slogans to your current mission!
Interesting ad -- thanks for the post.

While I admire Secretary Coffman and understand his desire to move a higher political office, I don't want to see Ken Gorden appointed to fill his shoes.

I hope Mike will apply his own campaign phrases "fufill the mission" and "not surrender" to his committment to those of us who donated, volunteered and voted for him a year and half ago when he said it was so crucial to have a Republican at the SOS seat.

Republicans, like Mike, keep giving up already hard-earned seats - no wonder Colorado is turning blue.

I don't want to see Ken Gorden appointed to fill his shoes
you won't; it's going to be Andrew Romanoff who gets the appointment.
