Obama Coming To Help Udall (Cue Talk Radio Freakout)

President Barack Obama, with close ally Satan (right).
President Barack Obama, with close ally Satan (right).

The Hill reports–it's true what you've heard! The Obamanation himself–coming to Colorado to help Sen. Mark Udall! What could it mean? Will they sacrifice babies and kittens to Allah? Will they stop your children from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and/or take away their salty, sugary snacks which is just as bad? Will they singlehandedly raise the gas prices at your local station and force you to buy solar panels? Will they, horror of horrors…cancel your health insurance?

How could Mark Udall do this? After all, didn't he "refuse to answer" if he would campaign with the President back in January? Conservative blog Colorado Peak Politics is incredulous, folks. Isn't the President still less popular than a root canal administered by Paris Hilton?

Udall is in a tough reelection fight with Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who made the swing state competitive for Republicans when he jumped in the race earlier this year.

Most polling of the race has shown Udall only slightly ahead of Gardner.

Obama’s visit to Colorado is unusual for him. He’s largely stayed away from senators due to his persistently low popularity in most of the most competitive states this election cycle…

Obama and Lady Liberty.
Obama and Lady Liberty.

Never mind that the Republican-controlled Congress' popularity, from which Udall's opponent is campaigning against him, is far worse! The conventional wisdom, as validated by savvy "independent" pundits who watch FOX News in the daytime when the good stuff is on, is that the absolute last thing Sen. Udall possibly needs today is face time with President Barack Obama. But despite the pundit-validated and thoroughly groupthinked consensus on the matter, The Hill notes correctly:

[T]the president did win the state twice, and Udall appears unfazed by the likely attacks from Republicans surrounding his visit. Indeed, he’s already had Vice President Biden in the state to headline a fundraiser for him. [Pols emphasis]

Hey wait, that's not what Mike Rosen says at all!

You may have heard, as in every day lately, that President Obama's approval ratings are not the very best right now–and that the conservative news media has more budding "scandals" to grouse about than since…well, since the last Democratic President was six years into his term. But despite the rock-solid belief on the talk radio right that the Benghazi/Obamacare/VA/Bergdahl drumbeat is just a few news cycles from sending the President back to Kenya where he belongs, there are plenty of Coloradans ready to welcome Obama back to a state he carried in the last two presidential elections–even hoping he comes, with some choice words for his detractors.

And that appears to include Sen. Mark Udall. Please adjust your conventional wisdom accordingly.

  1. You left out the important part: 60% of Coloradans disapprove of Obama's job performance.

This was not a good idea. Isn't Udall sending out emails saying he is losing to Cory Gardner?

it's Friday, and Congressman Cory Gardner had a good week. He rolled out his first TV ad of the campaign on Monday, and yesterday a poll revealed he was two points ahead of Mark in this U.S. Senate race.

    Gardner's campaign didn't write that. UDALL'S DID.

    This campaign is failing.

        1. In-between elections are all about the base.  Obama is very good at rallying the base.  Plus, he'll raise a ton of money for Udall.  Keep whistling past the graveyard with your shitty candidate.

    1. It's a fundraising tactic, numbnuts. Do you honestly think the Udall campaign takes a poll commissioned by the National Mining Association seriously? Do you honestly think the Gardner campaign takes that seriously? Because if they did, they'd of sent out the email instead of Udall.

      You're grasping at straws.

      1. Given that our Kayak Kandidate is only two points ahead in a poll by the National. Freaking. Mining. Association. tells me it's going to be a good election night.  (and the brains in that organization know the real 'War on Coal' is a geologic war, not a political one).

          1. Other than the fact that Udall has a record to run on that he can be proud of, and Gardner's record is of a right-wing party hack grossly out of step with the majority of Colorado voters.

Which will be made very clear to the general voters in the coming months.

    2. When they're ahead but not by a comfortable margin they always send out e-mails citing the worst poll they can find to scare supporters into sending more money. It's the emergency, emergency, send money ploy. The bad news e-mails are the ones they send when they're behind and know they're in dire straights and need at least a small miracle. Thats when they cite the best poll they can find, showing them almost tied so you'll send money to get them over the hump. It almost never does. Is this your first election rodeo or are you just following the rightie spin script?

Obama still excites Dems and in a midterm election you want to do everything you can to generate GOTV enthusiasm in your base. The Obama haters aren't going to be voting for Udall anyway. Even most Dems who have approval issues with Obama (count me in. I've been less than thrilled with his handling of numerous things) don't anywhere near hate him. In fact, many of us like his policy goals but not the way his administration constantly seems to have been blindsided along the way or the way he spent the first term dissing the congressional Dems he needed most by lumping them with Rs as in extremists on both sides being the problem, a real slap in the face and not at all true. But you can bet that for many Dems and especially Obama's hardcore fan base, a visit from their President is going to be energizing.

      1. By the way. This is in reply to Modster. Hit his reply button but the nesting boxes can be confusing when the reply gets this far removed.
