Doug Lamborn Nervously Eyes Cantor Defeat

  • by: Colorado Pols

Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn is once again facing a Primary challenge in CD-5, with repeat candidate Bentley Rayburn looking to pull off the upset on June 24th.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's stunning Primary loss yesterday was the result of several factors, but chief among them is the issue of immigration reform. As the Washington Post reported:

Now, this doesn't mean that any Republican who supports comprehensive immigration reform is going to lose his or her primary or even face a difficult race. The vast majority of them will probably be okay, because it's so hard to find viable primary challengers — as comprehensive immigration reform-supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) easy win Tuesday shows.

It just means that, for the vast majority of Republicans — who don't have to worry about losing in the general election — support for comprehensive immigration reform amounts to something that could needlessly complicate an otherwise simple reelection bid.

Cantor's perceived support for comprehensive immigration reform, and the possibility that it cost him his job on Tuesday, was not lost on Lamborn. This morning, the Colorado Springs Republican began trying to inoculate himself on the issue, posting this statement to his Facebook page:

Doug Lamborn and amnesty
Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit…

    1. I guess it makes sense. When your party is losing the support of everyone except paranoid, disturbed old white men, you gotta shore up that base…..

  1. So what is Lamborn's answer to the presence of 11 million plus illegals in the country? Maybe send the military on door-to-door roundups? It's easy for politicians like Lamborn to decry "amnesty." It's time for intelligent citizens to start replying: "OK, then what is your answer for dealing with the 11 million?"

George W. Bush didn't enforce the laws currently on the books either.

      1. Thanks for your reply. But, the answer needs to come, in public, from politicians, not from citizen activists on a web site.

        Regards,   C.H.B.

  2. Would someone on his staff tell that clueless Christian that Mexican immigration is at an all-time low, deportations under 'tar baby' (his words, not mine) POTUS is at an all-time high – and this 'wave' of immigrants at the southern border is a humanitarian issue?  Perhaps he might like to know that (I was in Phoenix last week so heard all of it) it's the local church groups that have stepped up and took responsibility for many of the young girls?  How much longer does the Pikes Peak Region have to suffer this fool?

    1. Michael,

Thanks for informing Congressman Lamborn about the facts but as former Republican activists, we both know facts aren't just in short supply in GOP territory, they are deemed to be irrelevant. Lying has become the norm for Republicans and their supporting cast at FOX and the right wing internet sources. If the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour today, it just as likely a Republican congress would declare war on Tasmania if thats who they disliked today. The disconnect between reality/facts and Republican statements is now routine but it nevertheless is important that we continually take them to task for lying. Eventually, the majority will realize Republicans simply can't be trusted. Thanks again for your efforts.

      1. Half of these refugees,  girls with an average age of 14, have been tortured, raped and (those that didn't make the trip) murdered by the thugs in their country.  Using this scenario to score political points earns him a special place in the Ninth circle (treachery) of Dante's casa – but even that may be too kind.

          1. That clip was just too rich to pass up given the Congressman himself seems to be a mercenary of sorts, for sale to the highest bidder.

From The Colorado Independent, Wizards of Oil: How the Koch brothers influence environmental politics

“With Koch money flowing to Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton, D.C. interests are able to trump the needs of our communities here in Colorado"

Lamborn is willing to compromise just about anyting if the price is right.

          2. Don't you long for the day when we have the money we need for humanity, and the military has to hold bake sales for their billion-dollar boondoggles?  Thank you, Doug – from Brane-Space:

Enter now the city of Colorado Springs, long a shameless suckling on the teats of government to the tune of billions a year for military support and expenditure. The irony is most of its burgers are ideological (social-economic) conservatives who find no irony in bitching, moaning and pissing about the weak or homeless collecting food stamps- though they themselves collect hundreds of times as much in terms of fat military contracts, special benefits or spinoff largesse…..which is essentially the same thing. So while they bemoan the "Nanny" state to which the poor are driven, they overlook the "Pappy" state which sits them on its knees and doles out goodies galore.

Now, despite the fact there are more than 16,000 severely needy and homeless in the city and nearly 100 thousand (inlcuding children) with medical needs unaddressed, the town is expecting U.S. taxpayers to shell out more than a billion dollars to prop up its military fatcats and assorted leeches….including little military whores like Congressman Doug Lamborn ….who actually had the audacity to ignore Obama's State of the Union address, declaring his intent to "blow him off".
Hell, if I was Obama…..I would immediately pull the plug on ANY federal money to Colorado Springs to support a Combat air brigade- that Lamborn could brag on. "Oh See how much money I got for thee….? And it didn't even cost having to sit through Obama's State of the Union!" Sorry, buster!

          1. Wanna hear a funny, Michael? When I clicked on the link in the above post, an ad popped up from Credo, my left-wing social do-gooder long distance company. Loved it.

    2. @Michael

I'm glad that church groups are stepping up to help. The whole thing is heartbreaking, and reflects decades of corruption, corporate profiteering and CIA interference  with democratic movements in these countries.

Apparently, the process is to detain and shelter kids until /if families can be found. Then release to the families. If adults come in with kids, the families are "deported" to a bus station.  Is this where churches are helping? If you know of a specific charity or church that is working with refugees and needs money, please post a link.

As for Lamborn, he won't be on our radar much longer, if his voters have any sense.

      1. I don't remember which denominations were involved (it was more than one).  That was happening the day before I came back and it was the lead story on TV that evening that the churches were preparing the food, finding clothes, bedding, etc.  The local Red Cross was also mentioned – that would probably be the place to send money.

The pictures of the kids were heartbreaking, indeed.  I wanted to scoop up a couple and bring them home with me.  We, the mightiest, wealthiest nation ever known to man.  We, a country governed by idiots like the Congressman who never met a billionaire tax break they didn't love. We, a country that apparently can't afford a cheese sandwich and bedding for young refugees escaping tyranny.

  3. I had to do a double take reading the caption on this thread.  I first thought it said that Lamborn was eyeing a run for majority leader……

    1. If you're referring to Lamborn's post, how is it "disappointing"?  It's exactly what anyone who has paid any attention to Lamborn over the years should expect. Unless by "disappointing" you meaning "completely predictable". If you lived in his district you'd still vote for him over a Dem, wouldn't you? Despite your inexplicable "disappointment"?  Who did you think Lamborn was, anyway?

      1. I actually had asked Elliot to respond, not someone speaking for him. I think he was disappointed in how he whole agenda of immigration reform has now been set back, but he can write for himself next time he checks in.

        1. Excuse me, Mama, but if you look at the nesting boxes you will see that I was not responding to you for Elliot but directly to Elliot's comment that he was disappointed. Please remember the response beneath yours isn't a response to your comment unless it is contained within your comment's box. Mine is clearly in Elliot's box. I clearly hit Elliot's response button, not yours. Your high horse scolding is, therefore, uncalled for and inaccurate. I was speaking for myself to Elliot, not to you for anyone.

          1. That's fine – when I want to argue with Elliot, which I enjoy doing, I'll do it on his Facebook page, where he writes for himself, has lots of conservatives to argue with, etc.  I believe that he just completed a case and had a loss in his family, so it may be awhile.
