Colorado Pols :: Coffman Raises $244,239 in Q1

Highlands Ranch, CO - Sixth Congressional District candidate Mike Coffman announced today that his campaign raised $244,239 in contributions over the past three months, bringing his overall total raised to $457,624 since announcing his candidacy in November.

"We are of course very encouraged by the total amount Mike has been able to raise, but the real encouragement is in the details. To date we have received donations from 1,062 individual donors, and of our total raised over $400,000 of it is available for the August primary", said Coffman for Congress Campaign Manager Dustin Zvonek.

"It is such an honor to have so many people committed and willing to contribute to my campaign. We have not only been able to secure many of the major donors in Colorado, but we've also seen an outpouring of support from the grassroots of our party in the form of hundreds of small checks", said Coffman.

In the full disclosure made available to the FEC, the Coffman for Congress campaign also reported having over $323,897 cash on hand and no debt.

All over but the appointment
With this much cash on hand and high name identification Mike Coffman is on his way to Congress. Now the only question is who gets appointed to take his place?  Ken Gordon and Andrew Romanoff seem to be the two favorites.  What have others heard?

Not Ken Gordon..
Ken Gordon is the last person who Ritter would ever appoint. Ritter is furious at Gordon for sponsoring a bill, which would throw out convictions for inmates when the DNA evidence has been lost. (Some of these cases were Ritter's when he was DA.)Gordon is trying to collect enough votes to override the Governor's veto. Leave it to Ken Gordon to find a way to put murders back on our streets.

Gordon is respected by the Governor
While they disagree on some issues the Governor has great respect for Senator Gordon and Speaker Romanoff. Will they get the nod or will the Governor make a surprise pick to replace Coffman? Is there anyway Coffman can lose?

Hopefully
Ted Harvey had a decent quarter funraising otherwise this one is all but over. Harvey is the only one besides Coffman who is doing anything in this race.

Honestly
It doesn't matter who gets appointed. The SOS has zero policy power, every decision the person who holds that office makes is based on state or federal law. I hope Ritter makes a better choice than Gordon or Romanoff. Here's an idea....how about appointing a county clerk! Somebody who actually has experience with running elections.

Checkmate
I honestly can't believe Coffman continues to raise this much money, I thought Armstrong was going to be the money candidate. I don't see how somebody with Coffman's name ID is going to lose to anybody in this race unless he is outspent by at least 30 percent. Look at the facts. Armstrong has zero base, no record, and less money. Harvey has a little base, but not enough to compete with Coffman, plus he's proven he can't raise enough money to be competitive.  Steve Ward....who the hell is Steve Ward.  This race is turning out to be much less competitive than I originally though it would be.

I agree
but think its closer to 100% or double. Will Armstrong has about as good of a chance as a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest. If Ted Harvey doesn't break $100,000 raised for both quarters then he is done for. Our janitor has more name id than Steve Ward. It's a shame we can't end this officially and save these 3 the embarrassment.

Wil Armstrong
Wil raised $226k this quarter.  It will defintely come down to him and Mike.  And as Mike captains the Titanic, Wil's got a great chance.

and if a frog had wings...
it wouldn't bump its ass when it hopped. All of the big donors are going with Coffman and there is a large sum of Will's money that is general election money and can't be spent in the primary.

[ Parent ]
Really?
So how much money can't Wil spend?  I don't think it's that much.  Meanwhile, Coffman can't buy good press, real friends, or a good decision.

[ Parent ]
Only someone
on Will's payroll would make that statement.

[ Parent ]
???
Not sure what that means.  Afterall, he can't buy any of the above.  And you didn't answer the question.

You claim that Mike has so much more primary money than Wil.  I'm just interested in finding out how much.

Wil is going to be very competitive.  Mike's his own worst enemy.

This Titanic barely missed the iceberg
A few weeks ago things looked pretty grim for Coffman, but now things seem to be calming down with the voting issues and it'll all be forgotten long before November.

Name recognition. War hero. Lots of money. Moderate views. Not a mortgage banker. They all add up to a primary win, not to mention a general election landslide.

Unless...
I know it's a long shot, but if Schaffer is viewed as toast by the Repubs, what if they got Coffman to run for Senate? He's got the bucks, he's got the name recognition, and he would have a chance.

I think Coffman is the one candidate of the two candidates (Bill Owens is the other) that would have a chance against Moderate Mark.

You really think they'd dump Schaffer at this relatively late date?
With Wadhams supporting him? Seems unlikely.

Six months
isn't too short a time to slot someone into a Senate race. We didn't used to even have caucuses until May. But it would have to be someone with good name recognition, statewide reputation and no skeletons, able to raise tons of money real fast. I still think Suthers is the one to step into the breach, if needed, Coffman's been waiting a decade to run for the 6th (or 7th).

But the GOP probably won't dump Schaffer, even if they'll wish they had.

(If he does withdraw, it'll be a family health emergency that mysteriously clears up after the election, thanks to the prayers of all the charter-schooled children.)

Interesting point
I think Coffman could beat Mark if it was an even race but given the huge fundraising advantage Udall has it would be almost impossible now. The Republicans are hurting for cash these days and Udall has strong 527 support.

Those 527s are going to have an absolute field day with the Marianas forced-abortion, sex slave issue
It's gonna be painful to watch...

You are so wrong
It's going to be fun to watch.

Attention C.D. 6 Dems..............yes, both of you!
Let's make yourselves relevant this election cycle by re-registering as Repubs, bring your friends to do the same, and vote for Mike Coffman in the primary.
If the thought troubles you, remember that after you vote, you can go home, take a long, hot shower to wash away that feeling, and then change your registration back to Dem the following day.
If nothing else and Coffman wins in a close race, you may have helped put Andrew Romanoff or Ken Gordon in the Sec. of State's office!
