Tell Cory Gardner to Disclose "Good Life" Special Interest Ties

Today, ProgressNow Colorado brought a yacht to the Colorado Capitol, and called on Congressman Cory Gardner to disclose whether fellow passengers of the Good Life, a yacht connected to Gardner and a controversial 2012 Florida fundraising junket, have donated to Gardner’s U.S. Senate campaign.

"We call on Cory Gardner to stopping conning Colorado and immediately disclose the names of the lobbyists from his luxury junket aboard the ‘Good Life’," demanded ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “Cory Gardner claims to be in Washington fighting for the people of Colorado, but his record tells a different story. Gardner has quickly become a creature of the Washington, D.C. insider crowd, taking advantage of every perk offered to him by corporate lobbyists and out-of-state special interests.”

In March of 2012, a CBS News investigative report disclosed a closed-door fundraiser held on behalf of Gardner and several other hand-picked Republican members of Congress. Special interest donors reportedly gave tens of thousands of dollars in exchange for access to Gardner and other members of Congress. Gardner even served as a “guest bartender” at a “happy hour” that required a $10,000 donation just to get in.

CBS News also reported that the top donors at this event went fishing with Gardner and other members on a fleet of expensive boats, including a yacht named “Good Life.”

“How many ordinary Coloradans have $10,000 to spare so Cory Gardner can serve them drinks?” asked Runyon-Harms. “To this day, Gardner has never disclosed who he spent time with during this Florida junket, what deals he may have made while boating on the ‘Good Life,’ or who among the special interest donors he hob-nobbed with may be funding his U.S. Senate campaign today.”

“The people of Colorado deserve better than a politician who claims to represent us while selling us out to corporate lobbyists and special interests on swanky yachts,” said Runyon-Harms. “We call on Con Man Cory Gardner to immediately disclose who attended his Florida fundraising junket, what he promised in exchange for their money, and who among his fellow passengers on the ‘Good Life’ may be funding his U.S. Senate campaign today.”

“Did Con Man Cory Gardner sell out Colorado so he could live the ‘Good Life?’” asked Runyon-Harms. “That’s a question only he can answer.”

    1. The boad in the photo-op is a cabin cruiser, and the good life is a yacht.  I demand that ProgressNow immediately restage this event with a proper yacht, or issue an immediate apology for being so misleading.

    2. Private craft, power and sail, are yachts. The U.S., once again, has a tendency to call our private yachts, boats, the rest of the world calls the boats yachts.  However, unlike football, boats and yachts refer to the same critters.

      1. True yameniye.  I think technically a boat has to be over something like 40ft long to be considered a yacht, but I could be wrong.

        1. The US statutes and regulations use the word "yacht" or "vessel" to refer to pleasure craft.  Length is used for determining lighting, safety gear, and electronics (such as radios) required.  The bigger the boat the more the $. State and local wording varies, but many do use "boat", which is more user friendly.  I don't think too many people on Stanley or Chatfield, with a 25ft cruiser think of it as a yacht.  (as you might guess I had been involved in maritime industry)

  1. The CBS News report is far more damning than the news conference at the state capitol. Someone should buy TV time and play the news report over and over again. The report ends with the question: "What do the lobbyist get out of all of this?" I'm willing to let the voters answer that question for themselves. Come election day in November, I don't believe Mr. Gardner will benefit from their answer.
