DeGette Leads Congressional Power Rankings

by: Colorado Pols

The latest congressional power rankings from Congress.org have Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette at the top of the list in Colorado. We'll let you guess who comes in at the bottom of the list for Colorado.

The other interesting note about this list is who comes in at #2...and who doesn't.

Click below for the rankings.

What a doofus
Tancredo's a lame duck, told to "never darken the White House door" by Bush's henchmen, despised by Democrats, despised by the GOP presidential nominee, a miserable failure as a presidential candidate, now all but ignored in the press ...

And he STILL beats Lamborn hands down in the power rankings?

Shows what a lightweight Lamborn is.

"Why not do the right thing for the American people, even though it's not exactly what we want." - Speaker Boehner

except
That these lists are based primarily on two things. The party in contol of the chamber, and seniority.

All the republican freshman rate low. I'm impressed that Lamborn rates higher than 22 other republicans considering there were only about 8 freshman R's elected last cycle.

Remind the senate about that seniority thing, please.
And Perlmutter and Salazar in the house.

'Fess up, dude!  Allard has done little in his years, MM has been a single issue candidate like her pal TT, and while unkind, "Stillborn" is an apt description of his ineffectiveness.

You know, Sen. Salazar entered a Republican Senate and became a power player right away.  So much for your theories.

"Politics determines who has the power, not who has the truth." Paul Krugman, 9/2010

not a theory
just the way it is

good point
some of these take committee into account as well

state rate
its cool that our state rank is 47....

Better than it looks for Colorado
Colorado would have scored higher except for the turnover. We are getting things done, we just have such young delegations.

Perlmutter and Lamborn lost points for being Freshmen.

Udall and Tancredo lost points for vacating their offices to run for other positions.

Both Salazars and Musgrave were all considered still too new by Congressional standards to have significant clout.

There was no excuse for Allard. He got tons of seniority points and still did nothing.

Udall beat by a freshman
So we supposed to believe that Mark Udall will be a good Senator even if he has less power than freshman Eddy Perlmutter?

This just shows that Bob Schaffer IS the best choice this fall.

Mark has been in the House for nearly a decade and being the son of a famous politician doesn't mean you become senator --if Washington is going to change then neptisim must end.

Udall scorees higher
Perlmutter was only ahead of Udall because he scored so well for his committee assignments.

Ed has Homeland Security and Finance, which they decided was impressive for a freshman. They are. Ed has done great in those spots, but  I suspect that he got them, in part, because of a good decision by leadership to help him cement what was seen as a swing seat.

Mark's seat on Armed Services, is a stronger seat right now than the rankings might suggest, and if you look at his effectiveness at passing legislation you will see Mark is really one of our best.

But what is really relevant is trying to figure out Schaffer's "power ranking."

We know that it is lower than Pete Coors, because he lost to him.

We know it is lower than Gail Shoettler, because he lost to her.

Who was it he edged out for Board of Ed? Tom Griggs?

So on the one hand we have the guy who ranks higher than Salazar, Musgrave, Tancredo, and Lamborn, and on the other hand we have a guy who leveraged an appointment incumbency to take on Tom Griggs.

Battle of the Titans.
