Does Hickenlooper "hate" underage alcohol deaths as much as he "hates" cannabis?

Dear Gov Hickenlooper,
Here is a report of alcohol deaths among college students, most underage. It is a shocking report, including a number of deaths at all of Colorado's major universities.

After reading your comments in the Huffington Post about “Hating Colorado’s Cannabis Experiment”,  I am wondering if you hate these deaths as much as you "hate" cannabis?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/13/hickenlooper-hates-legal-weed_n_4589926.html

I find it hard to support your stance of protecting children, since you seem to be not at all concerned about underage drinking because you are frequently promoting the use of alcohol, by easily influenced children, with the amount of pictures of you chugging back a cold one.

On behalf of business owners that employ thousands of women and vets, and on behalf of hundreds of thousands of people of color who are locked up because of racist marijuana laws, I am asking you stop treating us like stupid constituents who do not clearly see through your issues with your alcohol partners.

When you return to private life, you can say whatever you like. But as long as you are a public servant, we are demanding you do your job and serve the public that voted 55% vs 45% (a political landslide) to legalize cannabis. That would include telling the facts of this amazing "experiment".

Those facts include incredible revenue to the State of Colorado.

Those facts include amazing medical research benefiting children suffering from epilepsy.  Children like Charlotte Figi who went from over 900 seizures a month to two.  This was widely documented by Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN.

Those facts include the drop of incarcerating hundreds of Coloradoans.

Those facts include the creation of over 5000 jobs.

Those facts include increasing Colorado's tourism.

Those facts include an increase in money to be used for schools.

And lastly those facts include the relief to over 214,000 medical patients over the last five years in Colorado.

Those are the facts that you are stating you hate.  You must change your attitude and present the truth when asked about your state's "great experiment". And you must give some credit to the hard working Coloradoans that have fought to serve their patients and the state in a legal and safe manner.  It is insulting to business owners to hear you speak about us in that manner.

Sincerely,
Wanda James
(one of your campaign contributors, cannabis business owner, and sister of a black man that was arrested for cannabis possession)

  1. http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/05/health/gupta-medical-marijuana/index.html

Dr. Sanjay Gupta has this to say today… “I am not backing down on medical marijuana; I am doubling down.”

(CNN) — It's been eight months since I last wrote about medical marijuana, apologizing for having not dug deeply into the beneficial effects of this plant and for writing articles dismissing its potential. I apologized for my own role in previously misleading people, and I feel very badly that people have suffered for too long, unable to obtain the legitimate medicine that may have helped them.

I have been reminded that a true and productive scientific journey involves a willingness to let go of established notions and get at the truth, even if it is uncomfortable and even it means having to say "sorry."

It is not easy to apologize and take your lumps, but this was never about me.
