Memory Hole: Karl Rove and Mike Coffman At The Brown Palace?

We've received word from several credible sources that none other than GOP uberstrategist Karl Rove was in Denver last Friday night, holding a fundraiser at Denver's historic Brown Palace Hotel for embattled GOP Rep. Mike Coffman. It's interesting, since we can't find any information about this event at all–even the national government transparency watchdog Sunlight Foundation has no information on their normally-comprehensive website. We wouldn't even mention it but for the credibility of our sources who insist it did take place.

Given Rep. Coffman's delicate political situation going into the 2014, it's easy to understand why he wouldn't be eager to publicize a fundraiser with someone as controversial as Karl Rove–despite the needed money he can doubtless bring in. If you have any information on Friday's event, from photos to audio to a list of guests in attendance, please post in comments or email us at

Seems like most of the Polsters were not invited.

    Who would have thought?

Was there ever anything  more pathetic than Rove's performance on election night 2012 refusing to accept the Fox call for Obama? One could almost feel sorry for him if he weren't such an execrable creature.

It's the current GOTP disease, unable (not simply unwilling) to accept reality

Yep. Recent thread saturating doggedly devoted to defeating Udall with fictional "Udallcare" another perfect example.

My only complaint with this piece is the use of the word embattled. There is a proper order of escalation to describe the fall of a political candidate. First he's controversial, then he becomes beleagured. Only after that is it proper to call him embattled. The next step is gone; as in resigned or was ignominiously defeatedI have seen this progression play out many times in the last few years and I'm convinced it's in some publisher's stylebook somewhere.

Why doesn't the Colorado Pols simply call the Brown Palace and ask?

It was Thursday. I was on the same floor for another event–we were told Coffman was having a fundraiser–and swore I saw Rove.
