The Hits Just Keep Coming for Coffman

From The Denver Post:

The office of Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman scrambled Wednesday to correct a problem with its voter-registration database, which was incorrectly informing voters of their party affiliation.

The state Democratic Party told the office Wednesday morning that several individuals who have registered as either Democrats or Republicans found that their status was listed as "unaffiliated."

The glitch raised immediate concerns from party officials and others who feared that potential participants in Colorado's Feb. 5 caucuses would think they weren't allowed to take part because only those voters who have registered with the Democrats or the Republicans by Dec. 5 are able to caucus.

Both political parties have links taking potential caucus-goers to the secretary of state's voter-registration database.

Coffman said the problem would be fixed immediately.

"This is a very minor issue," Coffman said. "The information has been available all along at their (voters') respective county clerk's office. And it's being corrected. It will be updated tonight or by tomorrow morning."

Ugh.

Another hit...
Also reported this morning: Ritter and lawmakers plan on proposing an all paper ballot poll election this year.

Coffman and clerks oppose the idea, instead supporting a mail-only election with limited poll locations. Coffman went from opposing a mail-only election to supporting it (in just one of several examples of his inability to say the same thing more than once).

So our Chief Elections Official, after causing the chaos with his bungling of the certification process, has been either absent or ignored from  discussions when solutions are drawn up.

This is his idea of leadership? Maybe we should send this clown to Congress.

Now, THAT would be continuing the CD 6 tradition!

So help me out here...
If the data has been available all along from the County Clerks' offices (which it has), why do we need this expensive POS?

"This is a very minor issue,"
What the fuck is a major issue, Mike?

Minor matter!
Hardly Mike. This "minor matter" will only play into certain County Clerk's hands and certain Central Committee's plans when they want to shut people out.
Folks are working very hard, and using voter registration lists, to get folks to caucus and be delegates.
This could have been so good. Our SOS really needs someone to manage their website. It is counterintuitive and does not contain vital information or links to the vital information.
Is this the same guy that earned such praise for the St. Vrain school disaster that we've been told he straightened out? Did he suffer a head injury in Iraq that we don't know of?

In case you missed it
Here's the Denver Post taking a shot (yesterday) at another admin screw-up from Coffman:

Stamp of disapproval for Coffman

Very Timely
I actually checked on my registration and found myself listed as 'Unaffiliated' and assumed this meant there was some mistake in my registration that would prevent me from attending the caucus.  Well at least now I know what's up.

And if that weren't enough
To select caucus attendees last evening, Coffman hired Terrance Group to do a Push/Pull poll.

How do I know this...The group identified itself and questions occurred like...
Would you be less likely to support a Mortgage Broker (Armstrong and Harvey shots) and also Would you be more likely to support a Gulf War Vet?

Nice work Mike and "I'm doing this for free" Tonner...

Liz Adams is the reason the error was found
What the Post didn't mention in the article was that Liz Adams, who is campaigning to be next Representative of District 6 discovered the error (Romanoff is term limited).  The Rocky did mention it today and here's the link:www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jan/24/secretary-state-office-working-fix-web-glitch/
For those who get the hardcopy its on page 23.

As a Liz supporter, I am not surprised that she was the one who discovered it.  This is kind of attention to her constituents and concern for the public she will bring to the office.
