Jim Webb to Keynote Democrats' JJ Dinner

by: Colorado Pols

Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 15:37:53 PM MST

The Colorado Democratic Party announced today that Sen. Jim Webb will be the keynote speaker at the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner on February 29.

The Virginia Democrat won his seat in 2006 by beating incumbent Republican George Allen, whose campaign was managed by current Colorado Republican Chairman Dick Wadhams. But Webb speaking in Denver is probably just a coincidence, right?

Colorado Pols :: Jim Webb to Keynote Democrats' JJ Dinner
The Colorado Democratic Party is pleased to announce that Senator Jim Webb of Virginia will be the featured guest speaker at the Colorado Democratic Party's 75th Annual Jefferson Jackson dinner. The dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 29, in the Korbel Ballroom at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street, Denver.

Senator Jim Webb was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. During his run for Senate, Webb campaigned on three themes that continue to drive his decisions and priorities as a U.S. Senator: re-orienting America's national security, promoting economic fairness, and pushing for more accountability in government.  On Day One of the 2007 legislative session, he launched his career in the Senate by introducing "The Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007" (S.22), designed to provide veterans who have served since 9/11 a level of educational benefits similar to those received by returning veterans of World War II through the GI Bill.

"The Colorado Democratic Party is honored to have Senator Webb address our annual dinner," said Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak.  "Webb was successful at ousting incumbent Virginia Senator George Allen, whose name had been floated as a potential presidential candidate. Colorado Democrats can learn from his campaign experience."

Webb, a decorated Marine, attended the Naval Academy, fought in Vietnam, and held several positions in the Pentagon, including Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs and Secretary of the Navy.  Webb received his J.D. from Georgetown University and then served in the U.S. Congress as a counsel to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.

In addition to Webb's public service, he continues to enjoy a long and successful career as an author and journalist. He has published eight books, reported for Parade Magazine and earned an Emmy for his PBS coverage of the U.S. Marines in Beirut.

Webb serves on the Committee on Foreign Relations, Committee on Armed Services, Committee on Veterans Affairs, and the Joint Economic Committee.

I figured that with the DNCC being here the State Dems could have gotten a bigger name.

Bigger Name?
I love Jim Webb.

I'm actually think about going now.

No kidding
he is a very interesting guy.  I would love to see him speak in person.

I also think he boxed against Oliver North when both were on the Naval Academy boxing team.  What I'd have paid to have seen that match !

" The webinar is free, however, there are only 250 spaces available "

Some douche

Do you know anything about Colorado?
Jim Webb is the perfect Democrat for this event, especially this year. Whoever is responsible for this, be it the DNCC, the DSCC, or the Colorado Democratic Party, I would just like to thank you and congratulate you on making such a GREAT CHOICE!

Dick Wadhams is going to start having flashbacks!

And his opening line will be...
Hey Dick, anything you would like to say? Speak into the video camera please.

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

Any topic in particular?
Or is this just a "go Dems!" kind of speech?

I liked Webb's book on the Scots-Irish.  I suspect he's trying to steal white male identity politics away from the GOP.

It's a dinner speech
It's a "rah-rah" speech; last year it was Pelosi, the year before that Schweitzer, and the year before that (IIRC) was Bayh.

Webb is from a purple-tinting-blue state and he knows our favorite GOP chair from past experience, which makes him a good fit for a speech.  And he was pretty much the key Senate race that turned the Senate over to the Dems last year.

"We're below sharks and contract killers." -- Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), speaking on Congress's 9% approval rating

Rockstar
As politicians go, obviously Barack is the main attraction on the center-left side of things but Webb qualifies too (again, at least among the center-left)!

The CDP
rubbing Dick Wads nose in his own crap.  Brilliant!  I love it!

Precisely
Will the troll even be able to emerge from under the bridge?
