Wil Armstrong Closer to Run

by: Colorado Pols

Political consultant Walt Klein is apparently telling friends that he has been hired by Wil Armstrong, who is expected to be a Republican candidate for congress in CD-6 (along with several other Republicans).

Any chance...
former State Rep. Martha Kreutz could get into this race?  She ran in the Republican Primary back in 1998 and finished pretty strongly if I recall.  She's a moderate and a divisive primary with several strong conservatives (which appears to be shaping up) could allow her to slip in...

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

don't many of us wish she would......
Martha Kreutz would be fabulous as a candidate and as a Congresswoman.  IIRC, she finished 3rd behind Tank and someone else in '98.  (There were something like a total of five candidates running that year.)
One of her problems in '98 was that there was another candidate who was perceived to be a moderate in the race, and RINOs can't afford to split their votes between two moderate candidates.
She ran for the state Senate in 2000 against Jim Dyer and was trashed by some of the wing nuts operating under an "independent education committee."  There was an anonymous mailing comparing her unfavorable to Hillary. (Is there any other type of comparison that right wing nuts make to Hillary?)
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that she's too disgusted with the political process to get back into it.

Schroeder
You may be thinking of former state Sen Bill Schroeder. I believe it was Schroeder that came in behind Tancredo. Schroeder was also a well-respected legislator but also seen as a RINO. You can probably apply your last statement to Schroeder as well.

A conservative would win the primary
I think it would come down to a two or three-person primary, and a RRR would win, unless the real Republican was especially strong. I don't see a strong real Republican coming into the race, unless Coffman runs as one.

What about Kiki?
How about Kiki Traylor running by petition?  The same right wingers who pushed her under the bus in favor of one of their own in the State Senate race will control the party nomination apparatus.

Kiki could easily get the signatures, and she might win the primary against a field that has 2 or 3 candidates.  Even if Mike Coffman gets in, I don't see how they can avoid a primary in the 6th.

Kiki is a liberal puke....
...her defeat by Mike Kopp and the conservatives was good for Colorado.

She needs to leave CO-6 politics to her ideological betters.

Goodness
Wow, that was a little ragged and brittle.  I cannot imagine why the Republicans are on such a steep downward spiral.

[ Parent ]
they're still working on their purification project

[ Parent ]
45, many on this blog would agree with you
that republican purity is good for Colorado. I personally wish  my "ideological betters" would stick to deep contemplation and allow us ideological lessers to restore some legislative balance in this state.

[ Parent ]
Kiki who?
Lousy name recognition.

HaHaHaHa!
I can't believe it, after all these years, I get to tell this story about Wil Armstrong.  When his dad was first running for Congress, many of his neighbors, including me, helped him out.  We had done this for years and did it until the nut jobs led by Bill Owens came in in 1978 and took over his campaigns.  Anyway, back in '72 when he was first running for Congress, we had a small gathering of neighbors just before the election.  Wil was about, I don't know, 8-9?? Anyway, at some point during the evening, Wil gets upset and yells out to all of us, "Don't vote for Bill Armstrong so we won't have to move to Washington."  Come on Wil, out of the mouth's of babes.  Think about your family.  Is God really calling you to do this?  I doubt it.

Also, you would think with a new generation, he wouldn't retread an old timer consultant like Walt Klein.  What a mistake, but I guess with the family history, there was no chance he would do anything else.

By the way Walt, you still reneged on our bet in 1980 when you were just a numbers guy who didn't care about people.  You still owe me a quarter.  With interest since 1980, it's probably a Starbucks Coffee by now.  Decaf Mocha, Vente.

Has Bill Armstrong always been a nut case?
When did he become a Repulsive Republican Radical?

[ Parent ]
either born that way or something happened to him very early in life
either way, it's a pretty much immutable trait

[ Parent ]
i thought
Walt had his hands full with Bob S.  Good luck finding the time to do this primary....
