"The Fix" With Bob Schaffer

by: Colorado Pols

Wed Sep 19, 2007 at 15:24:21 PM MDT

Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer was interviewed recently by The Washington Post blog "The Fix":

Among the highlights from our sitdown with Schaffer:

* Schaffer criticized the Bush Administration's strategy on Iraq, arguing that not enough was done in the aftermath of the invasion. "I don't think the post-invasion stage in Iraq included enough man power," said Schaffer. "As a result we're a year behind where we should be." On the surge strategy, Schaffer said it was "probably" the right thing to do but added: "It might have been too late."

* Schaffer rejected the perception -- fostered by Democrats -- that he is too conservative to win statewide. "I think it's because I'm consistent," Schaffer said of his reputation, adding that he voted against his party "a lot" in Congress especially when it "was drifting toward the left on spending [and] budgeting."

* Asked whether he can raise the money to compete with Rep. Mark Udall (D), who ended June with $2.5 million in the bank, Schaffer expressed confidence. He noted that he raised more than $1 million in his four-month campaign against Coors and that in the first six week of this race he brought in more than $700,000. But, Schaffer added: "I'm just a guy. I don't hang out with millionaires for a living."

For some odd reason the interview is done from a Washington D.C. Starbucks. Apparently space is at a premium in the offices of the Post.

Should be called "shooting the shit" with BS
You hear that! We're just a year behind in Iraq! Perhaps Bob should go to Iraq and tell that to our troops and the Iraqi people, since they haven't heard that line before.

And didn't his multi-millionaire buddy Alex Cranberg give him a job at an Oil & Gas company after he lost to Coors? Call me crazy, but that sure does sound like he hangs out with millionaires for a living.

Repeating from the open thread
Take a look at http://www.bobschaff... - no way to contact via email or phone. This is as pathetic as Will Shafroth's was at first. And this is for the annointed Senate candidate?

Talk about zero resources being put into a campaign...

His home phone number is listed in the phone book.

Maybe he's planning on pulling a McLobbyist...
by pocketing the donations and walking away.  It's the perfect crime !

" The webinar is free, however, there are only 250 spaces available "

Some douche

Wow, that's lame
maybe he's just waiting until normal people (and I think we can all admit those of us who post here arent quite normal) actually care about the election.  Diehards dont need a reason to contact BS right now, do we?

Granted, it's a really bad idea and his website does blow...but it achieves the goal of telling people about BS and lets them contrib to the campaign.  They dont need much more at this point.

Besides, the only people that would vote for BS are old crotchedy repubs that dont understand the interwebs tubes anyway...like Gecko, LB, Foggy, and Ted Stevens  :P

I'm kidding of course...but I dont have a link to prove it Foggy.  :)

To me it says zero effort
I built my mom's website in 2 days (granted I didn't sleep much). It's no big effort to do this right. And granted it's not many of us, but we do tend to be influencers amoung our friends, co-workers, etc.

Will Shafroth made a distinct impression on me that he was not that serious when he had that lame initial website. And I haven't decided who amoung the 3 amigos I'm voting for yet...

Starbucks, huh?
Any word on whether Bob had, say, a mochiatta (sp?)

Chris Cizilla doesn't work for the Washington Post.
neither does Dan Froomkin.

They work for WashingtonPost.com.

neither one is a Post reporter or analyst;
the website is a different organization.

and if you're not reading Dan Froomkin every day, you may not know what the President is up to.
This guy is the best at tracking and analyzing the White House.

of course I meant "Chris Cillizza."

[ Parent ]
A year behind? Does he know that this is 2007?
More like four years behind.

"Politics determines who has the power, not who has the truth." Paul Krugman, 9/2010

the speculation is.....
hat he's just recycling the "talking points" from his '04 primary campaign against Pete Coors.  (They could at least proofread and change the years.)

[ Parent ]
Udall Benefits
If he recycles the talking points, insists on using the same old Republican drivel, he's going to sink rather quickly.

Another way to look it at is that it will benefit Mark Udall.

[ Parent ]
Schaffer sucess could be contigent on Iraq
Schaffer's point that there weren't enough troops post-invasion is a valid one. Schaffer would be far from the first person to bring forth this criticism. However, what the administration didn't do/could've done is a moot point.

Support for the Iraq war continues to decline, Schaffer's challenge would be to offer a plan that: 1. satisfies the people who want the U.S. out of Iraq 2. doesn't not alienate those who want to "stay the course." If Schaffer can find a way to appease, both then he could potentially threaten Udall .  Otherwise Udall will continue to have good prospects.
