"Hunter Boycott?" Meet The Hunters Against Gun Violence

A press release today from Mayors Against Illegal Guns:

In Denver, Hunters Against Gun Violence held media availability following their meetings with Senator Bennet and Senator Udall while in Golden, Mayor Marjorie Sloan held a press conference.

“Now is the time for us to take action, because we can’t afford another Aurora or Newtown,” said Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan.  “We must stand together and support legislation that will help prevent any more senseless gun violence.”

“As a hunter and someone who has owned guns since I was a young boy, I believe that commonsense gun legislation makes us all safer,” said Don Macalady, member of Hunters Against Gun Violence.  “Background checks prevent criminals and other dangerous people from getting guns. We need our representatives to take action to help us prevent another tragedy.”

The National Day to Demand Action – organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns in conjunction with Organizing for Action, Americans for Responsible Solutions and other groups – will feature hundreds of mayors, law enforcement officials, faith leaders, gun violence survivors and family members who want Congress to take immediate action to strengthen our background check system and reduce gun violence.  The day is expected to be the largest gun violence advocacy event in history and is part of the largest field campaign in U.S. history to address gun violence.  The coalition recently announced that it is hiring dozens of organizers and opening campaign offices in ten states.

Along with President Barack Obama's visit to Denver next week, extolling Colorado's newly-enacted gun safety laws, this effort looks to capitalize on the recent legislative victory here to build momentum for a federal law closing the so-called "background check loophole"–enacting federally the substantial equivalent of House Bill 1229. Background checks have consistently been the most popular component of recent proposals, and as a Western state like Colorado can go, theoretically anyway, so might go the nation. In the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate, it does appear that nothing more ambitious than what we've passed here at the state level is going anywhere.

Politically, we do see great value in a campaign in support of this legislation fronted by gun owners and hunters. Much has been made of the "hunter boycott" some disaffected conservatives are grumbling about, apparently with no regard to the fact that hunters in Colorado is restricted from carrying anything close to the magazine limits signed into law here anyway. The best reply to the emotion and misinformation from opponents of these bills really is somebody who owns a gun too, and knows they haven't been "banned."

  1. Both very cool. And of course real hunters aren't interested in guns that do to prey what was done to the kids at Sandy Hook. Nobody wants to bring home a deer as a bagful of mangled, dismembered pieces.

And if it's really fantasies about being able to defend themselves against a Commie/Dem gov'mint come to take away their freedom that we're talking about,  why aren't the gun nuts demanding the right to have everything the military has?  Even with the kind of weapons and magazines they're fighting to keep they'd still be crushed by the full force of American military might, most of which is already not available to civilians. Alternately, If it's really about bands of marauding  psychos or zombies or whatever that they're worried about, why would those be a problem unless the Government had been brought down?  By whom? Them?

The whole thing makes no sense unless you realize it's just idiots being manipulated by the fire arms industry lobbying organizations for the purpose of selling lots of their biggest money makers to a shrinking market.  With fewer interested in owning guns at all, they need to squeeze as much profit as possible out of the frightened, conspiracy theory loving, moron hoarders.

Notice the second guy arrested for pretending to be dangerous is claiming he never meant to thraten anybody? He even said he's too old and fat to be dangerous. Never mind guns are supposed to equalize that disadvantage. He may be old and fat but he sure is stupid and cowardly. Amazing how quickly these clowns go from big, tough, freedom defending, patriotic, death before gun control, bullets if not ballots macho men to pissing themselves and crying for mommie when somebody threatens to take them seriously.

Does it ever occur to these people that if you want to "pursuade" somebody to revisit a position you should do so by presenting the most well reasoned argument you can come up with as cogently and calmly as possible?  Why is it always… if you don't change your 're vote, look out, *&*#*!!! Could it be because they are ignorant, terrified little schmucks?

    1. Perfect example.  You  not only have never presented a well reasoned argument to support any point of view,  you don't even seem to have independently thought out positions. You know that New York City, liberals, Obama, the gov'mint,  gun control, and some other stuff are bad because the rightie spin machine says so.   Were you for universal background checks back when LaPierre and the NRA were?

Never mind. I don't care. Besides I already know that you have no idea what to be for or against unless you know whether Rs are supposed to be for or against  s a given thing. This week. You could read  a nasty, threatening e-mail and if you were told it was from a Dem to an R you'd be horrified.  If you were told the exact same e-mail was from an R or a Tea Partier to a Dem you'd make an excuse. You have no other way of determining where you're supposed to stand. Hence your amazement when individuals here don't take the stands all of your straw dog lib'ruls are supposed to take.

You could try actually thinking sometime.  It won't hurt much after you get used to it.
