"I'm Tired of Pulling Bullets Out of Kids"

FOX 31's Eli Stokols reports on yesterday's gripping testimony on bills to close the "background check loophole" and restrict the capacity of ammunition magazines sold in the state of Colorado before the Colorado House Judiciary Committee. Perhaps the most compelling witness was Arapahoe County coroner Michael Doberson.

For our out-of-state readers, Arapahoe County includes most of the city of Aurora.

“These high-capacity magazines allow a gun to fire large amounts of bullets to kill people as fast as possible,” Fields told the committee.

The Arapahoe County Coroner, who received the bodies of last summer’s theater shooting, helped [Rep. Rhonda] Fields hammer that point home.

“Hardly a week goes by when I don’t see what a bullet can do to a human body,” said Coroner Michael Doberson. “The most devastating wounds I’ve seen have been the result of high velocity rounds, like those fired by semiautomatic weapons like the AR-15.

“These are basically military-style weapons that have been introduced into our civilian spaces, our streets, our shopping malls, our schools. These rounds have devastating effects on the human body, even when only one strikes. Can you imagine what happens when multiple bullets are fired from one of these high-capacity magazines?

“Well, I can.”

The conservative response, which numerically was far greater than those testifying in support of Rep. Rhonda Fields' two pieces of legislation, revolved around a very consistent and tautological argument:

“Criminals don’t abide by the law,” the National Rifle Association’s Colorado lobbyist, Daniel Carey, told the committee. “That’s what makes them criminals.”

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee probably heard fifty or more variations of the circular but central argument for pro-gun witnesses that "criminals don't follow laws." Because this could be considered true of all criminals, and all laws, we've never been able to understand how it can be made with any kind of logical consistency. This is a nice way of saying that, after some repetition, we've begun to realize that this is truly one of the most ridiculous arguments ever made. If that's true, we should all give up on ever passing laws again. Right?

Against this crush of irrational lay testimony, far outnumbering proponents, based in many cases on unfettered speculation and hyperbole, you have the coroner for Aurora who says he is tired of pulling bullets out of kids.

In a perfect world, that would have a way of cutting through the noise.

  1. Yeah, and you know who commits murder?  Only Murderers.  Law abiding citizens don't commit murder.  So what is the point of outlawing murder if only murders will find a way to commit them?

The NRA and Wayne LaPierre are showing us the light.  If you want to get rid of crime, then get rid of the laws good citizens never break, but criminals simply ignore!

    Voila!  No crime.

    1. ????

      Be specific. Which "laws"?

Show me the Vietnam era draft dodging lappierre light.

Additional work for you pre-reply. Best do the research.

Exactly…….not Vietnam era pants befouling, draft dodging, mass shooting, sissy gun advocate tedi nugent standard half ass bullshit, but exactly what do you think is being proposed right now, this Congress, today, at this point?

      By who, in which chamber?

Explain how anything being proposed or on the books now will "infringe" on your current rights. Not some lazy, half assed nra answer, be specific.

Also explain your knowledge of the 2nd Amendment. Explain what you think "a well regulated militia, being neccessary to the security of a free state" means in combination with "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".

      Get it done,

Know what you're talking about when you come back.

        1. OOOPS!

If that's the case, I'm really sorry Davie.

Thanks for talking me off the ledge, PR. You saved me from making more of a fool of myself than I allready had.

Was it too much coffee this morning after that rousing SOTU? (There's no excuse for over reacting, but it is what it is).

          I'll tone it down.

            1. I got it. The problem is our usual trolls are so stupid, you have to go really over the top or it's just not clear you're faking it. Otherwise you could be a new Libertad sockpuppet.

            2. It's not your fault that I can't tell when somebody's being sarcastic.

              Again, I apologize.

That would have been a good screed for somebody that deserved it, though.

  2. So should the ban on fully automatic weapons be repealed because criminals would still obtain them? I haven't seen may reports of mass shootings using fully automatic weapons…

And if an assault rifle ban is passed, would gun shop owners, manufacturers, and gun owners be criminals, or would they follow the law?

This line of argument is so full of stupidity, and it invites idiotic follow-up questions like the two above to demonstrate the level of stupidity involved.

    1. It's so stupid, it makes a complete orbit around stupid and catches people off guard. You're like "oh, I never thought of that," before you realize it's the dumbest fucking thing you've ever heard.

Yes, dumbfuck righties. Criminals break laws!

    1. Yeah . . .

      Wango Tango

      Wango Tango
      It's a Wango Tango
      Ooooh yeah! (oooooh.)
      Baby!

. . . but given the depth of intellect, I'll probably need a translator to 'splain it to me.

      1. Ted Nugent — the guy that loves to eat raw game?  He must be the oldest living mad cow survivor!

        http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/04/19/ted-nugent-american-traitor-misogynist-romney-surrogate/

Rocker Courtney Love claims she gave Nugent a blowjob when she was 12 years old.

Maybe Courtney Love inspired the song “Jailbait”:

Well, I don´t care if you´re just thirteen,
You look too good to be true.
I just know that you´re probably clean,
There´s one little thing I got do to you.

Jailbait you look so good to me,
Jailbait won´t you set me free,
Jailbait you look fine, fine, fine
And I know I´ve got to have you in a matter of time.

Honey, you, you, you look so nice.
        She´s young, she´s tender
        Won´t you please surrender.
        She so fine, she´s mine,
All the time, I woke my mind.

It´s all right baby, it´s quite all right I asked your mama.

Wait a minute officer; wait a minute officer
Don´t put those handcuffs on me, what about her?
Hey, I´ll share her with you!
