This is a very good thing…our suspicion was that the commission had heard new information from industry and pushback from Frackenloopers’ office. They were getting ready to cave to the governors’ friends in the industry and withdraw the changes they had tentatively approved. This gives us a chance to counter the industry and the governors’ people who want to maintain the status quo.

DENVER — Colorado regulators are delaying a vote on new rules that would require bigger buffer zones around oil and gas wells.
The proposal isn’t satisfying many in the state’s populated Front Range or in some rural counties. The proposal calls for placing wells at least 500 feet from buildings. Some environmental groups want 1,000-foot buffers. Others worry that requiring even 500 feet will slow an industry that supports rural economies and the state’s budget.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission was scheduled to vote Thursday on the rules but is pushing that back to allow for more public comments.
The rules under consideration by the commission also would make the state the only one to require sampling of water wells near drilling sites both before and after drilling.

I am informed that those who had re-engaged the COGCC and subsequently forced this delay were local govt. interests and, while I believe them to be friends of the industry, they were apparently not industry representatives themselves.
I think it is fair to clarify that.
The rub that required the reopening of this rulemaking was in the rule that allowed a local govt. rep…the LGD or Local Government Designee or an O&G Liason…to establish the need for a hearing. The Commission was giving away a power that, by statute, belongs to them. The Colorado Supreme Court will most certainly object.
I want to see the Commission remove the “offramps” that allow the industry to escape the rules…kind of like when a drunk driver takes a side street when he/she sees a checkpoint up ahead.. these rules are riddled with escape clauses.
These rules are so cleverly subverted you have to give the industry lawyers and tacticians a nod for their creativity. The setback rule is so complicated and convoluted with so many side doors, as to be completely impotent. The water testing rule is equally useless. How about a clear-cut, uniform setback to start with…and then restrict the offramps..?
In fact…This whole procedure is a joke. Public health is not a subject that is being considered by the commission in these hearings. It is specified in the “Statement of Mission and Purpose” that testimony about public health impacts were not going to be relevant to this rule making. That directive came from the governors’ office, as I understand it.
This is your baby, Governor, and you are failing the people of Colorado because you refuse to see the truth your constituents can clearly discern. The rules are not fair and need to be effectively changed.
If you do not establish a significant setback and if you allow the industry to keep skirting the rules, your legacy isn’t going to be what you imagine. One of your staffers needs to step up and tell the boss he is snowblind and needs to look away from the bright light….unless he is happy with the name “John Hickenlooper, the Man Who Destroyed Colorados’ Water”.

Apparently, long story short, the doctor on supposed 24 hour call couldn’t be found for a seven months pregnant woman and it didn’t turn out well.

dwyer…the Republican party is in complete disarray…leaderless (unless you consider “Rinse” Priebus a leader). Their sound machine is in the toilet, swirling in the water and trying desperately to grab onto some message or rhetoric that will save them. Soul searching is a fools’ errand for the soulless.
