Nevitt Leads Money Race in Denver District 7

by: Colorado Pols

Wed Apr 11, 2007 at 11:51:03 AM MDT

The Denver city election has been a snoozefest, with only two races offering much in the way of news. The most competitive race is in City Council District 7, where the website Denver Politics runs down the money leaders:

Chris Nevitt $65,209
Shelly Watters $52,723
Julie Connor $21,800

But of course, such raw numbers tell only a small part of the story. Trends over time and changes within the donor base are also crucial. For instance, even at the beginning of the race, there was a great deal of money ($41,775 to be exact). Since then, the scale of monthly contributions has risen somewhat unevenly: Shelly Watters' contributions have diminished while Nevitt has surged and Julie Connor is increasing the pace.

It must be a snoozefest if I managed to post the first response

I may be wrong!
I predicted Watter would take it, but as denver politics points out the big MO is headed in the other direction.  Chris & Julie seem to bring more passion to the race.  Turn out is anyone's guess here, but it will be interesting.

PS
Not that it matters, but Julie has the worst yard signs I've ever seen.  Can her name be any smaller?

Isn't it amazing
How much people will spend on signs that suck?  The name is small, colors suck.....if you're going to spend money, make your name as big as freaking possible.  That's the whole point of signs...

Nevitt
Has no business being an elected representative. His only allegiance is to the Unions.  Ask the Athmar Park folks - he did a real number on them.

[ Parent ]
agreed
but in an election were turn out will be shamefully low, his strong union backing could push him over the top.

[ Parent ]
isn't this the only competitive race in the entire city?

There are also the races for Wedgeworth's and Rodriguez's seats
...I believe those are competitive too.

[ Parent ]
3 & 8
District 8 (Wedgeworth) has been heavily contested but District 3 (Rodriguez) is also open and very quiet even though there are a few people running.

Retirement in action does not equal retirement of beliefs.
