Tancredo Inching Closer to Presidential Run

by: Colorado Pols

Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 18:14:56 PM MDT

Tom Tancredo continues to move closer to becoming a full-fledged candidate for President.

Political commentator Bay Buchanan announced today that she is leaving CNN to become Tancredo's senior advisor, and expects a formal announcement on a Tancredo candidacy in about a week. As the Associated Press reports:

CNN commentator Bay Buchanan said Monday she will temporarily oversee the presidential campaign of Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo and has resigned from the cable network.

Buchanan said she will function as campaign manager until someone is appointed to that job.

Tancredo said last week he had not yet formally decided whether to run.

"I'm certainly encouraging it," Buchanan said. She said she expects Tancredo to formally announce his plans in the next week or so.

Two things are abundantly clear after this news: 1) The GOP primary fight in CD-6 is about to heat up, and 2) Bay Buchanan is going to be looking for a job in 18 months.

Good point
He's moved once already, what's twice?  He's sending out e-mail links to his monthly newsletter....I just got one today.  I guess it's a perk for being one of the elite few that voted for him.  :)

One thing is for sure, he wants to run for something again....I wonder how realistic it would be to imagine him running here.

I think the reference was to Bay Buchanan, not Bob Beauprez
The latter is already long forgotten, it seems.

Oh Happy Day if Tancredo runs AND gives up his Congressional seat. He'll have his moment on the fringes of the race - like Alan Keyes or Dennis Kucinich in previous years - and then finally, FINALLY we'll get some decent representation here in the 6th Congressional District. Even if it's a little too conservative for my personal tastes.

Will you have to change your name to
Wiens Watch?:)

Crud
I think you're right....totally missed that one.  Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Wil Armstrong top replacement candidate?
That's what the Denver Post suggests.

His dad's ruined the GOP in Colorado, so why not?

One word

While we're on the subject of presidential politics, I thought our biggest Romney rooter might be interested in this article from Political Insider:
http://politicalinsi...
With former senator Fred Thompson even thinking about a run, Romney's numbers plummet. I'm not saying he's out, but he can raise money till he drops and it won't be enough unless he can get the poll/voter numbers to back it up.

Mitt's Meltdown....
It looks like some of those Romney supporters who are turning to Thompson are showing about as much commitment to their candidate as Romney has shown to his previous positions on abortion, gay rights and gun control.
What goes around comes around.....even flip flopping!

If Bay's quitting her job over it...
... then there can't be much mystery over what the decision's going to be.

Then again, this *is* Tom Tancredo we're talking about.  Maybe Bay will head up his run for Ruler of the Universe, or Dogcatcher, or - what else is up for election in '08?

"We're below sharks and contract killers." -- Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), speaking on Congress's 9% approval rating

Bay ran her brother, Pat's...
independent presidential campaign.  Watch for Tancredo to jump out of the Republican primary when he fails to get mroe than 5% and run independent.

"I've learned a lot of lessons being involved in politics. I also believe that when you are attacked, you have to deck your opponents." -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)

the Dems should be so lucky!
Then '08 could be a mirror image of 2000, with Tancredo playing to McCain (or to Giuliani or Romney) the same spoiler role as Ralph Nader played to Gore.
Shave off that one or two percent points from the hard, xenophobic wing of the GOP, and Hillary edges out McCain.
Can Gecko ever get use to saying Madam President Rodham Clinton?

[ Parent ]
Look for Nader,
to do a "threepeat" and take 1-2% from Hillary.  He has already said he will run if she is the nominee.

Perhaps we could start a fund to send Gecko to someplace more atuned to his politics when Hillary is inaugurated.  How about Saudi Arabia?

probably too progressive of a culture for his taste

[ Parent ]
Nader got only 0.38% of the vote in 2004
and I'm hard pressed to see how he could possibly do better than that if he runs again.

"Thank you for putting your rank political motives on display." - ArapaGOP

[ Parent ]
He has a huge ego
and hates the old Clinton administration.  They didn't call him up to ask for his opinion on matters.  Nader got his revenge on Gore.
