(The first of many breaths of fresh air expected this session. – promoted by ProgressiveCowgirl)
Moments ago, State Senators Pat Steadman and Lucia Guzman introduced the Colorado Civil Union Act. If passed, the legislation will provide same-sex couples with critical protections to take care of each other.
Take action now! Sign our petition and call for the passage of civil unions.
Last year during our civil unions campaign, we saw that our opponents will go to any length to deny protections for our families. They’ll offer up lies and use scare tactics to try to derail civil unions. They were even willing to shut down state government!
We have so much support at the Capitol, but our opponents will stop at nothing to kill civil unions.
Make sure that our lawmakers hear your voice – not the lies that our opponents will spread.
Over the past several years, our community has stood together to accomplish amazing victories. In 2011, we passed a bullying prevention bill that protects LGBT students. In 2012, we generated 25,000 contacts into the Capitol in support of civil unions-and we won bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate.
And just a few months ago, we celebrated the election of a pro-equality majority in the House and Senate.
We must keep building on this momentum. Join us! Click here to sign.
We’ve come this far because of you. You’ve made calls, sent e-mails, and showed up when we’ve asked. You’ve told your story and shared your family with your neighbors and with our lawmakers.
We’re poised to make history this year. But we can’t stop pushing for it. We’re almost there-let’s do this!
Onward!

One correction, though. Rep. McNulty proved last May that your “opponents would stop at nothing to kill civil unions.” Now he and the rest of them will stop at…the bang of the gavel from each and Dem committee chair.
Stuff’s gettin’ done this year, no doubt.
For me personally, first 2 in no order other than alphabetical are:
Civil Unions and Dream Act
Rep Ramirez really messed up on the Dream Act last time around, cost him the race thank gosh. He blames his loss on reapportionment but funny enough Mario Nicolais the most outspoken Republican on the Reapportionment Commission (I attended most of the commission meetings) was and is an advocate of Civil Unions and the Colorado version of the Dream Act. One word former Rep. Ramirez.
Doh!
Such as the Dems targeting him so hard because he was the 33rd Republican seat in the last Assembly. Well, you know, it was a symbolic victory to go after him, but he was also low hanging fruit for the Dems too.

They’ll be coming…
It is fun, and it is fun during hearings to know the minority has nothing to do to change the path of good bills and the fate of the minority bills. Of course having been in the minority makes one fill with desire to never be in the minority again.
When this becomes law, it will delay “marriage equality” by at least a decade.
This WAS a great idea two+ years ago.
It is not TODAY.
TODAY, we need to repeal Amendment 2 and go for full equality.
As soon as repeal is on the ballot, it will get removed. And the first session after that we’ll have full equality for marriage. This has shifted big-time.
But Civil Liberties are rarely won in one fell swoop. Progress. And I agree with David I believe it will be way less than 10 years.
A year or two of civil unions and the bottom will drop out from the opposition. That seems to be the result in other states.
And we should take a moment to thank Frank McNulty. Yes he delayed civil unions by a year. But he also turned Colorado from purple to blue. And that will have a giant impact over the next 10 years.
But does this mean the anus-is-exit lady is coming back to testify?
She really pissed me off- and not one member of that committee called her out.
