Romney To Appear In Craig, BFE Tuesday

  • by: Colorado Pols

Somewhere near the Utah and Wyoming borders.

9NEWS’ Brandon Rittiman:

Sources tell 9NEWS that Governor Mitt Romney will stop in Craig, Colorado.

Full details of the campaign stop have not been finalized.

Craig is a four-hour drive from Denver…

The Northwest Colorado town has a population of about 10,000 and is popular with big game hunters and is known for being an excellent spot to hunt elk.

Much like Mitt Romney’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it stop in a field near Ft. Lupton a couple of weeks ago, the logic of appearing in a place where swing voters he needs to reach do not live is a bit mysterious. Is it because Craig is an easier drive from Salt Lake City than Denver? Maybe because you can count the number of Democrats in Moffat County on one hand? Too far for pesky Denver reporters to crash the party with their microphones and silly questions?

Or maybe it’s time for Romney to kiss the ring of the Bear’s Ears Tea Party Patriots?

Bottom line: he’ll be about as far as you can be from a major media market in Colorado this time, and it’s (sorry, locals) not even all that pretty a backdrop. Your guess is as good as ours.

  1. because you can count the number of Democrats in Moffat County on one hand?

And because someone in the oil and gas industry thought it would be a good idea.

  2. I can’t imagine any big oil money people stopping by Craig to say “hi” to the Mitt. Maybe it is because the advance team thought no reporters would show up to ask pesky questions about Bain and dogs. I wish him well, but he would be better dropping in on a fire and telling everyone how he would get rid of the national firefighting teams and FEMA.

    1. I’m thinking they may have some “oil shale” thing they are going to announce, or something like that. It will be interesting to see why Mittens would come to such an out of the way place.

  3. I thought he was gonna pull a Robert Johnson at a lonely crossroads but truth is sadly depressing.  This from the Craig Daily Press:

Frank Moe, owner of Deer Park Inn and Suites in Craig, sent Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign a video earlier this year produced by Energy America. The video, titled “The Perfect Storm Over Craig, Colorado,” highlighted the community’s economic dependence on the energy industry.

Along with the video was an invitation from Moe to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to visit Craig.

“We (thought) this would be a good place for him to make the point that he is (in favor of) all forms of energy,” Moe said.

On Thursday, Romney staffers called Moe and said the campaign was considering Craig as a campaign stop.

The trip was booked Friday. Romney spokeswoman Sarah Pompei said the former Massachusetts governor will appear for a public event at 9 a.m. Tuesday downtown.

It’s believed the location will be Alice Pleasant Park.

Poor Schmoe is gonna be disappointed with no talk of wind or solar in Mitts bowing to big Oil & Gas.

  4. Whatever Romney is coming to Craig to kiss, he would do well not to invite Tipton to appear with him.  That would be counterproductive as the Conservative vote is abandoning Tipton in droves as a result of his support for NDAA and the rest of his voting record.  On second thought, a side by side comparison between Tipton and Romney might benefit Romney as the more Conservative of the two.

Rumor has it that even the Republican shill group Western Slope Conservative Alliance is preparing to throw Tipton under the bus, after the physical altercation between members of that born again Tea Party RINO group and the Republican ruling elite on May 9 which resulted in members of both groups being named and then redacted (http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/tempers-flare-at-gop-executive-meeting in a police report).  Interestingly enough, there weren’t any REAL Tea Party members anywhere near the dustup that promises a split Republican vote in Mesa County.

Stay tuned for round 2 or tune in to the blow by blow coverage on the liberal websites which we understand will be available on pay-per-view with the bill coming in for Republicans right after the election.  What could they be thinkin?

  5. And the Beauty of Coal-fired CraigAmerica power.  With some oil and gas, public lands posturing wannabe sagebrush spiciness thrown in.

  6. who was anxious to tell me that “they” (whoever “they” are) are coming after the coal-fired power plants in northwestern Colorado, upon which the local economies depend.  Apparently paranoia is alive and well in Moffat County.  The Craigian also told me she thought wind turbines were ugly, ruined the landscape, visual pollution.

For Dems running for office in that part of the state, there are about 696 active registered Dems in Moffat County . . .

    1. I believe.  Or CraigAmerican is appropriate too, if you are the type of creature that likes to shit in the woods…if you know what I mean.  http://bearsearspatriots.com/

And the woods probably are a good place to evade FEMA. Someone should ask that Willard guy about that–if he believes the Moffat County Commisars can violate US law in a national security situation, and establish CraigAmerica once and for all.

And it was in the thread (coal, that is).
