  1. the Republican Party.  And I love the twisted phrase, “your birth control.”  Takes me right back – many decades – to a time when it was always the woman’s fault if she got pregnant.  Birth control was just not something men were supposed to think about.  She’s the slut – he’s a hero.  What a sick bunch.

  2. Now we are conflating: booze, spring break and birth control.

I am sure that all the women who:

    1. don’t drink alcohol

    2. are past spring break age

    and

    3. take birth control

are really going to appreciate this.

Can the Republicans work any harder at driving away voters?

  3. as Limbaugh.

This just goes on and on.

I wonder if Brophy’s asked his wife about health issues as they pertain to the female body.

Does he know what birth control does to prevent excessive bleeding, to prevent cysts and polyps?

This guy’s posts expose him as the quintessential goober, the idiot totally unaware of any reason to know anything about women.

The rock’s definitely been turned over.

Time to take a health class, guys.

    What are you, 12?

    1. Husbands and priests. Sometimes doctors.

See?  No women in that equation.  Oh, well, sure, there are some chick doctors, but we’re talking real doctors here.

Remember when that guy said that AIDS tests for pregnant women was a bad idea because it would only encourage more single women to have sex, or, worse, that it would allow them to get pregnant with less consequence?  I remember Brophy jumping all over the inhumanity and and the lack of pro-lifeishness.

      Oh. No I don’t.

    1. The guy was a weasel the first time I met him and the first time I testified in a hearing that he was on the Committee. He has always been out of his league no matter what the subject. I can never figure out why anyone would vote for him.

    2. We’re talking standard medical care here and people are objecting to covering a pill that reduces medical costs. And it’s not about having sex, it’s about having sex without pregnancy.

      1. Absolutely!  Pregnancy is a disease that must be prevented.  How dare anyone suggest we should stop having sex to prevent this horrible disease.

And, how dare anyone suggest I pay for it myself.  Society is better off when they help me pay for my birth control.  We must prevent the spread of pregnancy.

        1. among other things, a medical expense that can be avoided – a medical expense which outweighs the cost of birth control pills.

For someone who I am guessing dislikes excessive government expense, I would think you would be happy to cover something that reduces costs.  I mean, if those welfare queens don’t have babies, they can’t claim those huge checks, right?

          1. I can see why this is in the public interest now.  Carry on having sex and sticking the taxpayers with the tab…

Perhaps if we just abolished forcing taxpayers to pay for your pregnancy then we wouldn’t expect them to pay for your extra curricular activities.

Did Sandra Fluke ever consider asking her multiple partners to help her foot the bill?  Or is that my responsibility?

            1. You really don’t know what this debate is all about, do you? You heard that some women are having sex without getting punished, and it just enraged you for some strange reason.

            2. Or of her sex life, and thank you for proving that you’re just as much an ignorant ass as Rush for saying what you just did.

Sandra Fluke’s testimony was about the 1.5 million women who take birth control pills for other medical conditions like ovarian cysts, excessive bleeding during periods (not to mention excessive pain, abnormal PMS, and other symptoms that can occur in some women), and severe acne.  That her testimony wasn’t even going to be about sex should have been obvious to anyone who bothered reading about it.

            3. Hello? People in monogamous relationships have sex too. Probably even more sex as my experience has taught me. As do married folks… and both of those categories of people may often have good reasons for not wanting a pregnancy, especially if they are not financially ready to have children or already have them.

Do you see this equation? No birth control if you can’t afford it because you are low income + pregnancy = medicaid, WIC, and probably some more forms of welfare for years to come.

You are parroting Rush’s assumptions, which makes you as ignorant as he is.

            4. “Vanessa,” that is about as vile as Limbaugh’s original slurs against Fluke.

Read the remarks that she wanted to give at the GOP “Males Only” committee meeting, and that she did finally give at a later Democratic-arranged meeting. There is no mention whatsoever of Fluke’s personal life.

You can want or need birth control pills without having “multiple” partners – or even ANY partners. You seem to be incapable of appreciating that, “Vanessa.”

  4. I thought the issue was whether employer-provided health insurance was required to provide contraceptives without a co-pay.  Who the hell is asking Senator Brophy (or Rusty Limbaugh, for that matter) to pay for anything?

    1. that I asked a departed right-wing polster on another blog. If you have health insurance, you are paying for birth control – if any of the major providers don’t cover it, I’m unaware of that. I asked if he was just as adamant that his insurance not cover it, and of course got no response.

The whole “I don’t wanna pay for your XYZ” thing is as immature an argument as you can make, anyway. You think any of them would go, “Yeah, I can see your point” if I say I don’t want to pay for the invasion of Iraq?

    2. Rush doesn’t understand the law and so neither does Brophy, because where else does Brophy get his information about anything except talk radio world where nothing is real.

  5. I don’t want to buy your lobbyist-supplied booze (we all know it’s the taxpayers who ultimately pay those tabs), pay for your salary or your fucking per diem. Call your mommy for your allowance . . . what a maroon!

    Remember, you’re probably a mistake . . .

  6. Politically speaking, is it really necessary to kiss Rush’s ring when he is being misogynistic? He has a very loyal fan base, but who else are they going to vote for? I guess it is part of a bigger question:  Why do the republicans feel the need to pander to the extremists? Wouldn’t it make more sense to laugh about Rush’s hilarious “jokes” in private. Does he think that his twitter feed is private?

    1. We had a rescue dog named Sheila who was nervous and flaky. We had to be careful if we needed to scold one of the other dogs, because she would jump in and attack it. It seemed to be her way of showing solidarity and feeling like she was on the winning team.

Mr. Brophy’s tweets here are an excellent example of “being a Sheila”. Guess he must be feeling threatened by the current political climate.

I was picturing Brophy and Limbaugh laughing together, and found myself imagining them as a modern day, alternate-universe Laurel and Hardy, about as funny as they are nice. Another fine mess Rush has gotten himself and the GOP into!

  7.  As registered R since 18 years of age and a “Rush Baby”, this latest shock jock comment is not the problem.

The problem is Rush’s lack of true economic knowledge.  Rush does not understand nor believe in free markets. Rush and most of his lesser imitators, such as Rosen, are ministatist who blame the individual, when it is really a tax and regulation problem, Rush and his clones helped to create!

I never realized Rush was an ICON of our elected leaders such as Brophy and the entire conservative movement. Hopefully Brophy and the other elected sheep can read some real economic books and not rely so much on blowhard Limbaugh.

These conservative jokers don’t even know what the “state” is!

    1. In a dark room, listening to talk radio, with his head up his ass.

The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) applauds President Barack Obama and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for their decision to guarantee women in most employer-sponsored health insurance plans coverage for FDA-approved contraceptives with no co-pays or deductibles beginning August 1, 2012.

      http://www.acog.org/About_ACOG

What am I going to do about this?

What are you going to do about this, besides bitch and give other people homework?

      1. are so preoccupied with that particular insult. I frankly find it vile.  I just hope that the two of you did not hear this flung at you growing up…

However, I do not have ACOG on speed dial.  I am delighted to read the quote from their website.  I would like to see a press conference or a platform that is more  accessible to the general public…

For example, I would like to see Congressional Hearings on just this topic….I would also suspect that this will be part of the briefs filed as part of defense in the legal challenges already begun.

As you rightly state, dp, talk radio is not a forum that is fair and balanced and this issue is not being represented medically.

    1. I shouldn’t be saying that about you, since I don’t know how long it’s been since you got laid.

But I still probably know a bit more about you than Rushbo did about that young woman.  Arapa–go—pher away, far, far away.

You should look up the formal definition of a cretin, because you are one.

      I am so over you.

    2. Not that I do pay for it. I don’t, in fact (and don’t even know if Rush still has a yen for pills). But I don’t want to pay for it, either — and that’s what really matters, here. And, really, why should I have to pay for it?

    3. Health insurance rates are set based on what the insurance company is going to have to pay out. If the pool of insured has more babies, they pay out a lot more than they do for birth control pills.

So eliminating free birth control pills increases the cost of insurance. Therefore if you want to reduce your insurance cost, you should support free B.C. pills.

      1. For the insurance industry, the perfect scenario is if the whole thing boils down to a “trade off”.

If birth control’s not covered, then neither is mens’ vasectomies, Viagra, etc.

Everybody fights, the insurance companies get off Scot free.

        Plus higher premiums.

Once again, the people most affected can’t see the forest for the trees, the industry wins.

  8. Most folks pay a majority of the costs for their own health insurance. This is not about who pays for individual health care or lifestyle choices, but about women being allowed to make their own choices about their sexuality. Heaven forbid that women should have sex and enjoy it and not want a pregnancy every time. (though turn on your tv and you will see that it is the cultural norm) Viagra is typically a covered medicine. it is only because a group of men think they should make choices for women that this is an issue. Brophy and Limbaugh, your words are galvanizing women away from the Republican party, especially young women. Thank you.

  9. Seriously: why did he feel compelled to wade into what he already knew was a terrible P.R. problem for the Republican Party?

Is he fearing a future primary contender from the right wing?

Does he feel there are some major contributors who will actually look favorably on such tweets?

Or can he just not help himself in his boot-licking fealty to Rush?

    1. Like the GOPers in general.  Promising its all about the economy…and pre-natal care, and birth control, and ‘trans-vaginal’ ultra sounds…

I was recently back in DC and asked a friend from VA “why would the legislature propose a bill that requires such an invasive type of ultra sound…surely even the wing nuts in the Burgess could see that wouldn’t end well…”

“They can’t help themselves,”  he said.

  10. Do not “tweet,” post, write or say anything that if you were to say it at work to a woman would make you subject to a sexual harassment claim.

The booze, birth control, and spring break remark qualifies as sexual harassment.
