Brophy says that if McInnis wins primary, he'll drop out of race

  • by: Awen

This was a comment attributed to Greg Brophy this afternoon.

Greg Brophy just confirmed it on KHOW. They want McInnis to win the primary and then step down.

I didn’t hear the show so I’m hoping someone who did will either verify or deny (and it should be someone other than Sean Duffy).

The comment is posted on Shawn Mitchell’s FB page but was not made by Mitchell.

I’m assuming from the comments that followed that this was made on the Caplis/Silverman show this afternoon.

The first question I have is “who is they referring to? Wadhams?

  1. No one knows who “they” is.

    It was kinda funny.

Caplis said he wouldn’t be voting for McInnis. Thinks McInnis should withdraw.

Wadhams said the state party has two candidates on the primary ballot- one of them will be the nominee.  When pressed what if the winner drops – Wadhams repeated that there were two names on the primary ballot and one of them would be the nominee.

Brophy said that the way to get the strongest possible, lectable conservative candidate would be for McInnis to win the primary and withdraw and allow the vacancy committee to pick from the pool of strong candidtes… I’m paraphrasing.

Caplis agreed- and immediately latched onto the “strongest most conservative candidate”.

Sounds like they know they’re screwed if Maes wins, though no one would come right and say way he’s unfit.

Also like they really wish all this stuff had come out  long ago. I forget which guest- Brphy Wadhams, I tihnk Beauprez, made some comment about how things just happen iin campagns.  That made me laugh- because this happened many years ago – the “happened in the campaign” was that anyone found out.

    You can listen here

And the 5:00 hour will be posted in a  few minutes.

  2. By “they”, I meant the Republican establishment. Although at the time I only heard Greg Brophy say that was what he wanted, Caplis and others picked up the same line of thinking afterwards, and I have no doubt this is their plan. No way they let McInnis go up against Bennet now. I had made an earlier comment on the thread (before I heard Brophy) saying that I thought this was what the establishment people want to happen, and that was why people like Wadhams were advocating that McInnis stay in right now. It’s scary how well I know these people.

    1. It isn’t up to them.

If the CO R party pulls some rules technicality bs to replace the nominee, I’d expect all R’s of character and principle to either leave the party or fix it.

I’d expect the same of the D’s.

And, btw, since we’re on the subject there are days and times where I agree more with Baron and others that the R’s and D’s are not so different. The dominance of the two parties is not always a great benefit to our country.

            1. Which party did the Republican party “take over”?

              Oh –

Founded in northern states in 1854 by anti-slavery activists, modernizers, ex-Whigs and ex-Free Soilers, the Republican Party quickly became the principal opposition to the dominant Democratic Party. It first came to power in 1860 with the election of Abraham Lincoln to the Presidency

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R

That actaully sounds like it would be hard, maybe even really really hard today. So it’s ok- the TP wants the easy path.  ok

                1. it works for me.

The TP either takes over the Republican Party, rendering it unviable in general elections, or it splits the conservative vote. Either way, the long term impact of extreme movements that enter electoral politics is to undermine their more moderate cousins, hand over power to their ideological opposition, and provide some colorful stories of human folly with which to entertain and appall future generations.

As John Maynard Keynes said, “[People] will do the rational thing, but only after exploring all other alternatives.” BJ is on the cutting edge of exploring the “other alternatives” (a necessary service, apparently), leaving some of the rest of us to focus on “the rational thing,” and hold it up in contrast to his “other alternatives”. It all works out in the end.

                  1. I do agree, 3rd parties do not work. Perot’s presence killed daddy Bush in ’92 and Nader damaged Kerry in ’04, but 3rd party candidates don’t win big elections.

Ok, The Body did it in the land of a thousand lakes.

Then there’s leiberman in the Senate.

                    But……..

If the baggers do commandeer the republican party here, Tanc’s the real and only candidate for the mansion. Maes can carry the semi fringe, but not the real dyed in the wool kill ’em all nativists. Any republican candidate will need not just the semi’s but the off the chart loons as well. The varied one issue-ers that won’t come out without the eggmendment, a defense of marraige ruse, an anti gay rights offering, or some other fringe ballot issue.

Replacing Maes with a GOP insider won’t resonate with teabag nation, seems to me. Best bet is to go so far right it’s out of the scope.

A once promising Governor’s race has gone south for the GOP, and this could be an opportunity Wadhams will remember as squandered, but Tanc probably could get more votes than the mileage challenged one.

And certainly could outperform another party annointed hack.

                    Tanc’s the man!

                    1. I was actually thinking about Nader’s ’00 candidacy. He really wounded Gore. I still remember talking to people that were voting for Nader because they said they felt the Dems were the same as the republicans.
