McInnis Opposes "Dr. Evil" Initiatives (101, 60 and 61)

by: Colorado Pols

Fri Feb 19, 2010 at 14:48:30 PM MST

Interesting news from former Rocky Mountain News reporter Kevin Flynn's Inside Lane blog:

But McInnis' missed opportunity came when, after criticizing fee increases and the growing technology that would enable mileage-based road fees to replace the gas tax, he was asked what his ideas were for fixing the funding crisis.

He said he had no specifics, because "I'm not a transportation expert," and instead asked the questioner what proposals he would have...

...The two candidates were on the same page on one issue, however - three ballot measures this November that would slash government and school revenues and limit the ability to borrow for projects should be defeated.

Proposition 101 and Amendments 60 and 61 "don't add up," McInnis said. He understands voter frustration with the cost of government, he said, "but as a leader I gotta say do the math. It doesn't add up on these amendments. These are not good amendments."

Hickenlooper also said he opposes the trio of measures.

"All three of those ultimately will result in us being unable to build anything," Hickenlooper said. "From your point of view, it would be impossible for government to build anything. You're condemning us to be a second tier country."

Kudos to McInnis for opposing the three ballot measures that would virtually destroy Colorado's budget, and our ability to really do anything at all. McInnis' statement won't go over well with Tea Party folks, but perhaps he finally realized that it wouldn't be much fun to be Governor in a state that was dead broke should these measures pass.

Good for him.
We need more high profile politicians from both parties to speak out against these initiatives because if they pass they are going to kill this state and affect every single person, regardless of political affiliation.

"I wouldn't characterize caloric intake as "professional development." c rork

Way to go Scotty Mac!
Every politician of good conscience, who is not a nihilist or out to score some political points should come out against these amendments.

My preference is of course Hick, but I really appreciate Rep. McInnis doing the right thing instead of the easy thing.

Yep
Now if he could just come up with a budget he'd almost be a real candidate.

[ Parent ]
Scooty Mac!
That's what we'll cheer at the rallies!

[ Parent ]
It's a start
But why do I think this is more his looking at the general election now that Maes is clearly toast than any real change of heart.

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

[ Parent ]
Since the guy has held
just about every possible position across the entire spectrum when it comes to abortion rights, you're probably right. Which way is the wind blowing?

[ Parent ]
McInnis has passed a key test of reponsible leadership
by opposing the nihilist initiatives, 101, 60 and 61.  Now it is time for Muhammad Ali Hasan, candidate for state treasurer, to renounce his previous support for these devastating attacks upon our schools and highways and join the responsible leaders of the Republican party in opposing them.

Yes
MAH, are you watching? It's OK for you to say they're bad now.

[ Parent ]
MAH doesn't believe they're bad
That's like saying it's OK for him to admit TABOR blows, or TARP actually helped save the financial system from collapse, or Cary Kennedy knows a little more than he does about investing. Not gonna happen.

[ Parent ]
But of course
MAH is now alone on those islands cept of course fellow castaway Dougie Bruce... I am sure doug would not be very good company. Charging rent without paying any tax.

Good for snotty Mc Lobbyist his advisers ain't as stupid as one might think.

[ Parent ]
These measures are so dangerous, they're in their own class
You could make an argument for TABOR (though we have made our thoughts known that it didn't work), but you can't really argue with a straight face that 101, 60 and 61 are a good idea. If these pass, we might as well just shut the lights off in this entire state and all go live somewhere else -- they're that bad.

[ Parent ]
Agreed.
My point was more that MAH doesn't change his mind on these things. Once he gets religion, he keeps it.

[ Parent ]
TABOR is a death of a thousand cuts.
These three cut off the head, legs and arms with three brutal strokes.  the end result is the same, but TABOR takes long to get there.  (The vote on tax increases part of TABOR is ok.  The toxin is in the fine print.)

[ Parent ]
RedGreen is right
My support of 60, 61, and 101 remains strong

You, sir, are an idiot.

Nonetheless, thanks for playing Gertie!

Where U B MAH?
are you blogging from CPAC?  Or did you choose to not be seen with your lunatic brethren this year?  It's understandable if you gave them the finger, after all, it is an election year and providing a speech to the fringe like you did last year might not be in your best interest.  Plus, you may not want to make an "enemy" out of loons.

[ Parent ]
You may think state government
is something to play with. I guess for rich dudes from Beaver Creek it's recreation.

I just hope the Republicans in this state are smarter than to vote for you.

Sometimes, I guess, you have to let the inner bitch out.

[ Parent ]
support of 60, 61, and 101 remains strong
MAH's position makes sense. If those three pass, the state won't have any finances to manage if he's treasurer.

[ Parent ]
And that's the only way I'd feel comfortable with him as treasurer
No money to mismanage.

Today, you're either going to get better or you're going to get worse, but you're never going to be the same.  Which one will it be?  --Joseph V. Paterno

[ Parent ]
Your support
Have you developed a full understanding of their effects and why they would be positive you can share?  RedGreen is partly right in that you don't believe they're bad, but that has to be qualified to the extent you even understand what they do.  If you have a well-informed position on their effects you can share, great. Until then, it seems more that you have a political interest in supporting them but no way of knowing whether they're a good idea or not.

[ Parent ]
Of course you do
The only thing I have seen from your campaign Hasan is that you can unite those on the left and right on one idea - you know absolutely nothing about state finances. Have you ever taken an economics class? Managing an LLC that is funded by your parent's money doesn't count.

[ Parent ]
Pretty Low Standard for the GOP
One cheer (as opposed to three cheers) to McInnis for opposing these absurd measures.

More interesting to me was his reply to fixing the funding crisis:  "Duh, I don't know, what do you think?"

ITLDUSO
Honk hello when you see my license plate!

Scooty defines himself
"He said he had no specifics, because "I'm not a transportation expert," and instead asked the questioner what proposals he would have..."

Just as his campaign has "had no specifics" all along, Scooty will leave it to the Democrats to do all the neuron work.

"I fear the GOP will come to resemble a bitter old man, sitting alone in the corner, mumbling about all that is wrong with the world today, while everyone ignores him." - Bob Silbernagel

[ Parent ]
Asked what he would do as Governor McInnis said...
I'm not a run the state expert - what do you think I should do?

Teabaggers can't finance a governor's race
And business HATES these initiatives. When you starve government, you starve government contracts (and children, and seniors).

Ref C passed because it was financed by the paving lobby and the strip mall lobby and the home builder lobby--all those businesses that depend on government doing its basic functions of building roads and sewers and water supplies.

The business community is conservative to the point that being conservative harms their bottom line. Then they get downright progressive.

McLobbyist knows this, and that his cash supply would dry up if he stuck it in the eye of traditional Republican donors like the paving lobby, the strip mall lobby, etc., etc.

Fortunately for the state budget, in this case.

Bet Penry wishes he'd never thrown in the towel. Because he's still whining that Ritter hasn't turned down Federal Medicaid money.

Non impediti ratione cogitationis.

BTW, I "adduced" this all by myself, you total fucking assclown.

McInnis Opposes Anti-Govt/Anti-Business/Anti-Tax Measures
I think that McInnis did the right thing here. Big and small business interests will be openly opposing these measures. I hope this will send the message to the Tea Party folks that a certain level of taxes are patriotic and necessary in order to keep this country great.

I don't think these insane ballot measures will pass in the end, but I hope they afford the chance to show the majority of the electorate that taxes are not evil and that business supports the services that our tax dollars are used to fund.
