From The Associated Press:

The White House has confirmed that President Barack Obama will visit Colorado in February to attend an event with U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet.

White House spokesman Adam Abrams said Thursday that the details are still being worked out.

Craig Hughes, Bennet's campaign manager, says Obama will be in Colorado to campaign for the senator, who is running for election. A date hasn't been set.

Of course Obama will support him
and so will the DNC and the DSCC because that's their job; to support incumbent Democrats. That's what AR, who is no different from Bennet on the issues or at least not enough to matter much, is up against.

That's why the sooner he drops out and releases the Democratic state legislators and other activists who owe him support in return for all he's done for them in the past from their obligations to him, the better.  The choice isn't going to be Bennet or Romanoff.  It will be Bennet or the Republican. Period. The sooner we all get behind Bennet in a tough election, the better.

your comment is exactly why JO calls this a pro-Bennet echo chamber, and why s/he's a little (and just a little) correct.  Your comments sound exactly like Hillary sounded in October 2007.  Maybe BO gives Bennet a big boost among D primary voters and maybe not.  I say the jury is still out on everything about this race.  And I'm not an AR supporter.

Bennet a Solid Obama Vote
Michael Bennet has been a strong supporter of Barack Obama from the beginning.  He always speaks highly of the President during his campaign events.  He served on Obama's national finance committee. (I suspect that is where he developed some of his fundraising contacts which are paying off in his Senate race.)

The President's presence in Colorado will help fire up the Obama supporters to SHOW UP to caucus for Michael Bennet.

Plus, the Mass vote wasn't a primary.
Somehow, I suspect that Obama's popularity, and influence, is higher among the cadre that turn out for Democratic caucuses and primaries than among the less motivated Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters who made up the vast majority of the Massachusetts special election voters.

Big difference
Bennet isn't campaigning like Coakley. They share similarities, but the Bennet campaign isn't operating anything at all like the Coakley camp did.

Also, Scott Brown is a much more likeable, much more dynamic candidate than either Jane Norton or Ken Buck (more likeable and charismatic than Bennet too for that matter).

I don't think Obama would mind too much
if some of us AR supporters show up to show our support for the Presidents efforts on health care, environmental protection, and an honorable winddown to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He seems like an open-minded type to me.  JO and Sharon Hanson aside, after all, most Romanoff supporters don't dislike Bennet.  
  Actually, we may not have to worry about JO much longer.  I just talked to AR and we agree to dispatch Fang, our Gray Wolf/Rotweiler mix, to counsel him.

Neither Obama or Bennet seem to have that personality trait. I'm also just flat out psyched that the President is coming back to Colorado. He needs to get out of DC as much as possible--the majority of those folks are crazy. Come join the sane and rational out in the West for the day, Obama. It'll do you a world of good.

Bennet Welcomes AR Supporters
We invited all of the AR supporters attending a Dem event last weekend to go over to a Bennet house party happening nearby.  Few of them showed up.  

That's unlike the treatment I received directly from AR last Tuesday that I'll write about later.  I think the guy's got issues.

Obama has been a fantastic asset to the Republicans when he's campaigning for Dems.
Calculus
1. There is NO clear evidence that Bennet is favored over Romanoff among Colorado Democrats; differences in their polling numbers are a point or two, well within the margins of error. http://www.rasmussenreports.co...

2. Bennet's "veries" show a significant deficit compared to Romanoff, most notably in the "very unfavorable" ratings. This is the one place the numbers exceed the margin of error.

3. Obama faces a serious deflation of enthusiasm among his supporters, as shown by virtually every single poll.

Today's math quiz: Does 1+2+3 = "attend an event with" Bennet," which will be interpreted as getting embroiled in an internal fight and in the process alienating roughly half the Democrats in Colorado (and, really, it doesn't matter for which one Obama campaigns--someone or ones are going to be alienated). Especially at this stage in the proceedings, literally months before most people are focused on this primary contest?

Makes me doubt the quality of Obama's own math education, fuggedabout math education in the public schools at large. Who's been whispering in the president's ear? My nominee: Arne Duncan.

I would favor Romanoff over Bennet
If you could give me a single reason to do so.

Bashing Bennet doesn't count.  That's what Republicans do.

If you want to help your candidate, you might want to consider shutting the fuck up before you do your candidate any more damage.

I can only speak for myself, but as a guy who is on the fence, every time I read one of your posts I think, "why would I want to be like THAT asshole?"

AR has 8 years of legislative experience.
He's not taking PAC/special interest money this time.
He would have voted for cramdown.
He would have started HCR negotiations with single payer, not on the 50 yard line.
AR is the underdog.
AR is not Bennet.
And he's just so darn cute.

I think you should be multiplying those.
Although in this case you get the right answer for the wrong reason (which sometimes happens in math).

I think it's unwise for Obama to get involved here, unless he's quite confident that weighing in on this election will push Romanoff out of the race entirely.

If one supports Obama (an overwhelming majority of Democrats still do), does this make one question supporting Obama, or question supporting Romanoff? Hard to say.

If Romanoff sticks it out after this, it hurts Obama. My guess is that Obama thinks it's worth the risk since he got screwed in Massachusetts by staying out of the race. Could be overreach though.

I really can't see a down side to Obama engaging now
The whole involvement in Mass stunk of last minute desperation.  I don't think anyone felt that getting into Mass that late in the game was a sign that Coakley was merely taking a victory lap with the President.

Quite a different situation here.  There are still a lot of Obama folks who are not party hacks (or political junkies) and haven't really considered in CO senate race...until last Tues.  

Now's a great time for Obama to come out, remind everyone what's at stake, remind them who they voted for in 2008 and who is clearly his favorite in the CO race.

IMHO, there were a lot of Romanoff people that didn't support Obama anyway (eg JO and Sharon).  He can probably risk pissing them off as long as he can reengage the Obama folks.

Obviously not elsewhere, I didn't mean to suggest that. To the extent he needs the support of Colorado Representatives, or needs to get re-elected in 2012 and carry this state, it could hurt him a bit.

In principle, of course, it could hurt Obama's credibility just in the general narrative, if for example he campaigned for Bennet and Romanoff ended up winning. Not that I think that's likely, but it's conceivable.

Who said this, JO or the NRSC?
It's not surprising that Senator Bennet would want to stand with the President after carrying water for all of his unpopular proposals in Washington during the last year, including his failed stimulus initiative and controversial health care proposal. Will the President's visit lead Bennet down the same path as his fellow Democrats Creigh Deeds, Jon Corzine, and Martha Coakley?

Hint: Not enough cutsie nicknames.

Bennet is now positioning himself as an outsider
That's some serious comedy.  The guy who grew up in D.C., went to elite private schools his whole educational life, went to work for the richest guy in Colorado, is getting all the East Coast establishment money and the full-court press by the President.  He's an outsider.  Yeah.

Bennet is the guy who vowed to vote for the health care bill even if it cost him his seat.  Then wanted to back off the second it looked like it could cost him his seat.

You want a reason to vote for AR?  He tried to tackle the biggest problem in Colorado, TABOR, when everyone else stood by like cowards.  Bennet is a lot of talk and standard campaign b.s. (have you listened to him?).  AR has shown he is willing to act.

What's this about backing off?
Bennet has some problems (and I agree that Romanoff tried to tackle TABOR, though he wasn't really successful, and that matters). However I haven't seen any evidence Bennet has been less than solid on health care.

As RSB said, he's on board with reconciliation, which is about as much as you can hope for from a Senator who's not in leadership.

for reasons we hashed out on the other post.  I think if you're willing to go reconciliation on this, you know you're taking a major political risk.  So  if you're so convinced that this bill needs to pass at this moment that you're going to take the risk, more power to you.

but in what way has Romanoff been a particularly strong voice for health care reform? I'm glad Romanoff supporters love him.  That's great. But the effort to turn him into some kind of progressive super hero is just silly. He's DLC all the way.

I photographed more than 50 health reform events this year in CO.
I never saw Andrew Romanoff at a single one.

And where was Andrew Romanoff when the President was giving the State of the Union address? Was he in Washington?  At a SOTU party watching members of the federal government closely -- people he hopes to join next year?  

NO, he was at a house district party that became a Romanoff campaign event (against party rules of course -- so much for respecting the party).

We are forever grateful to Andrew Romanoff for fighting TABOR for all of us.  Nothing I say about the current Senate race diminishes my respect for him as Speaker of the House.

I just don't believe, for many reasons I have stated over the past year, this is his race to be won.
