Attorney Used Trump Email Account for Porn Star Payoff

Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels (CNN)

As NBC News reportsDonald Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen made one hell of a stupid mistake:

President Donald Trump’s personal attorney used his Trump Organization email while arranging to transfer money into an account at a Manhattan bank before he wired $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence.

The lawyer, Michael Cohen, also regularly used the same email account during 2016 negotiations with the actress — whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford — before she signed a nondisclosure agreement, a source familiar with the discussions told NBC News.

And Clifford’s attorney at the time addressed correspondence to Cohen in his capacity at the Trump Organization and as “Special Counsel to Donald J. Trump,” the source said.

Cohen has gone to great effort to try to distance President Trump from an alleged payout to porn star Stormy Daniels to be quiet about a sexual relationship several years ago, but it appears that he may have skipped one very important step:

In a statement last month, Cohen said he used his “personal funds to facilitate a payment” to Clifford (Daniels), who says she had an intimate relationship with Trump a decade ago.

“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” Cohen said in that statement.

But an email uncovered in the last 24 hours and provided to NBC News by Clifford’s current attorney, Michael Avenatti, shows First Republic Bank and Cohen communicated about the money using his Trump company email address, not his personal gmail account.

Donald Trump has managed to weather every scandal or accusation that has come his way since he first became a candidate for President in 2015. It would be oddly fitting if this is the thing that finally takes him down.

    1. "STFU"?  As a troll with low intelligence once said: "Profanity means you're losing."  Besides, read the First Amendment moron.  We can say whatever you want little fascist.

Also, the same people who decried Clinton's immorality are more than willing to let Trump slide.  Even though it is clear that Trump tried to bully Stormy Daniels and her lawyer into silence.  Oh, and Trump and Michael Cohen also committed campaign violations in paying Ms. Daniels off.

      1. Don't forget Karen McDougall, Trump's playmate fling. But, it's OK if Moderatus wants to forget these names. The religious right has already given Trump a "mulligan."

        1. The religious right has already given Trump a "mulligan."

          . . . One-handed or two?

(And, did they have to sign a non-diclosure agreement with David Dennison for that euphemism?)

    2. To quote your false God, Antonin Scalia, "Get over it!"

Fluffy, if we are going to re-litigate the Lewinsky blow job, do you support impeaching Clarence Thomas from the Supreme Court for being a perv?

    3. Trump’s no hypocrite. . .

. . . President Raw-dogger will make Stormy Daniels an honest woman, and she’ll make you a great FLOTUS someday soon, Fluffy!

And, who knows, maybe Melania’s parents will really learn to enjoy living in North Korea???

    4. So Moldy, you're 100% with Trump who bragged he could shoot someone in Times Square and not lose any votes.  Now he's had his corporate bagman/attorney bribe a porn star to keep quiet about an affair that involved a lot more than a blow job, and your moral and religious teachings are just fine with that.

Man, you really are a pathetic little shit, aren't you?

    5. Colorado Pols was created in December 2004. Bill Clinton left the white House in January 2001.

We are a political blog, not a time machine.

    6. “Just STFU” . . . ???

. . . I’m starting to worry about you, Fluffy.  You haven’t been your usual happy, jesus-loves-me-cuz-I’m-white self these past couple days . . .

. . . all this winning seems to be making you tired?  Get some rest.

      1. "Happy"?  He always seemed pissed off.  He is just twisting himself in knots to maintain his holier-than-thou self-image.  He is doing the impossible: degrading himself further.

    7. Nutteranus, let’s put President Dennison under oath, we’ll let him get grilled, everyone here will form an opinion on his responses, THEN you can decide whether or not we’re hypocrites??

You’re comparing green apples to marijuana.

    8. Go easy on Moddy folks, he blue-screens whenever the facts come out about his beloved Supreme Leader. Unfortunately that same programming also leads to incoherent blather upon a successful restart. Give him a few minutes to warm up then he'll be back to his normal disgusting self.

    9. Nah, you can shut the hell up.  Many of us Ds did not defend Clinton.  But that's kinda beside the point here, since the payments and how they were made now strongly appear to violate federal law–actual statutes that provide for criminal prosecution and sanctions.  So are you saying we should overlook that?  I thought your Grand Old Pervs party was all about law and order?

  1. Trump's paid mouthpiece (ick, that doesn't sound good) is having trouble keeping her story straight

Trump Is Reportedly Peeved at Sarah Sanders for Being Indiscreet About His Alleged Shark Week Sex Affair

Now the press secretary is on the record acknowledging that the two are involved in a legal feud. (not just between attorney Cohen and Ms. Daniels) While the president’s approval rating is generally Teflon-coated when it comes to personal behavior, we also know from prior experience that seeing news reports about his antagonists—especially lady antagonists—tends to get his goat. (Not to mention that reporting about a president’s alleged infidelity is probably particularly disruptive in a White House in which his daughter and son-in-law hold top jobs.)

Daniels is suing to have the 2016 agreement invalidated because Trump didn’t sign it. Sanders’ suggestion that Trump wasn’t even aware of the agreement, as attorney Scott Pilutik noted Wednesday in Slate, would seem to give Daniels’ legal team more ammunition to push for an invalidation.

Sanders answer, made later in the press conference, which was even more explicit about denying that Trump knew about the 2016 payment agreement. “I’ve had conversations with the President about this,” she said.

    1. From the Persnickety Reply Dept.: That's actually just one gmail address, not two. The first reference in quotes is the displayed name of the sender, and the second in less than/greater than signs is the email address. In this particular case the displayed name and email address just happen to be the same. But still: a valid point.

            1. Funny.  But in all seriousness, we've been mining the ogalala aquifer all my life and the deep well irrigators are doomed.

It is vital to find a cash crop that can be reliably grown with dryland farming techniques– and preferably witjout poisoning the soil with millions of tons of pesticides.

How is hemp regarding the need for roundup or other pesticides?  I'd love to see the crop of George Washington and Henry Clay save semi-arid Eastern Colorado.

              1. The conservation angle is what got me interested in this crop 17 years ago. It can be grown in dryland and limited-irrigation scenarios; it rarely needs herbicides or pesticides. There is already an $800 million+ market for the products in the US and most of those purchases are imported.  We remain the only G7 nation to prohibit its cultivation under federal law (the Controlled Substances Act); it is, though, legal to grow under certain conditions via Section 7606 of the Farm Bill.

Sorry we didn’t pull together a Pols day last year so everyone could see the crop.  MamaJ did make it out for a day of harvest and Jared swung by the field one afternoon as well. You’ll enjoy this: one of our fields last year was planted right over the top of the Republican River pipeline bringing the aquifer water from north of Laird and dumping it in to the river at the state line. That made for a story rich in symbolism.

                1. The symbolism is somewhat undercut because  the river is named for the Repunlican Sioux, not the Republican Party.  But I won't tell if you won't tell.

                  1. The symbolism I was eluding to was more a new crop, banned for the past 80 years, that would require significantly less resources.  But-not-for federal farm policy as a significant driver in the depletion of the Ogallala we may have had these discussions two-three decades ago (that, and it’s likely the Republican Sioux had no aversion to the cannabis plant!)

                    1. You were alluding, alas, it eluded me.  But you are right.  We're overdrawn and lost a court case showing we owe water to Kansas.  So putting a water sparing crop on the pipeline was good symbolism.

                    2. My bad. Yes. Allude! My English teacher Mrs. Hughey (RIP) took a roll on that one.
