Whatever desire that Democrats may have to bring Senate candidate Jane Norton down to earth should not permit subsidizing the rants of Colorado's greatest embarrassment since John Chivington. Noting very, very briefly what the Denver Post reports:

Former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton will announce her candidacy for the U.S. Senate today, much to the chagrin of retired U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Tancredo said he would not have had a problem if Norton earlier this year had called fellow Republicans statewide to say she wanted to run for the office and outlined her reasons.

Instead, he charged that Norton in recent weeks got talked into running by Arizona Sen. John McCain, a Norton family friend and political ally.

"Does John McCain have a right to do that? Sure. Do I have a right to (complain) about it? You bet," Tancredo said in an interview Monday night. "Jane Norton is a nice lady who I like. End of story. But I fear she is not ready for prime time."

Yeah, we'll remember that next time you run for President on the "Send 'Em Back" ticket. And why do we have the feeling that Tancredo wouldn't be nearly so angry if McCain had suggested that he should run for Senate?

At least Post reporter Lynn Bartels had the sense to edit Tancredo for the print version, in the first version of this story he asks, "Do I have a right to bitch about it?"

If the messenger makes your skin crawl, it's really hard to listen to what they say. Almost makes us wonder if he's learned his lesson from the Sonia Sotomayor burn and is now using his ignominy to inversely boost the team...

You're right. Not nearly smart enough for that.

not ready for prime time ?
And any of the other candidates are???  Give me a break, Tom !

Tom, you retired
Go away.  Play the role of "has been" with some dignity.

Good bye!

If Tancredo doesn't like her
that's a strong vote in her favor.

My recommendations in the 2010 primary?

"A nice lady who I like"
It sure doesn't sound like he likes her very much.

Note to all potential Republican public office seekers: to be considered eligible to run, you must contact Tom Tancredo 17 months before the election, otherwise you will be publicly vilified.

He's just keeping his name out there
to remain a commodity on the far righty circuit at both state and national level and as designated wacko right paid guest talking head.  He needs the money as he lost a bundle in the Madoff fiasco. Expect outrageous outbursts for both state and national consumption on a regular basis.

As for CD6, he kept getting elected here because R is the default choice and it was never considered sufficiently competitive to be worth the investment of a big push behind a strong candidate.  Funding and strong Dem candidates went to closer districts.

In canvassing during his cycles I rarely ran into anyone who was just crazy about Tancredo.  It was always more about not voting for Dems because they feared they'd be too liberal and/or never having heard of the Dem candidate.  If I were Norton I wouldn't worry too much about the extent of Tancredo's influence in general, much less in a statewide election.

And, his opinion is important because?
Jeez - I didn't listen to the guy when he was a Congressman.  Why in the world would I care what he thinks about Norton or anyone else?

Was he hoping that there would be some miraculous "Draft Tommy" movement?

If anyone should know about not being ready for prime time, Tancredo should.

I used to wonder when he was making his jingoist hate filled diatribes if someone had actually stolen his strawberries.

At least Congressman Tancredo has ran for office....

Not only did he run for office
He helped make the Republican Party what it is today!

I didn't know you were such a Tancredo-ista
Even after he suggesting bombing Mecca?

Congressman Tancredo and I...
...disagree on a LOT of things

that said, he's an elder statesman of our State Party and his voice has major influence - I think his thoughts here on the Senate race are important ones

And, your point was?
Gee, I thought Lt. Governor was an elected position in Colorado.  Notwithstanding the change to create a Gov. - Lt. Gov ticket, a bad running mate can drag down the team.

And, yes, Tancredo did run for office in a slam dunk Republican district created by his predecessor.

Of course there was that awkward little incident about the term limit pledge which he gave so freely and broke just a freely.

ok, this is more relevant
on the previous Tancredo post I wondered why you were giving him any space at all -- I see him as entirely irrelevant.  He's a former congressman and will never be a future anything.  His body of work as a former congressman is about as impressive as Sarah Palin's depth of intellect.

But, if he's trying to cut down fellow R's at the knees in the Colorado media....well, that is relevant.  What an ahole.
