Trump wants an arms race and 28,000 more nukes.
https://thinkprogress.org/trump-long-obsessed-with-nuclear-weapons-wants-28000-more-76b9de9d929b/
Bennet voted to give the Pentagon $80 Billion more dollars.
This is why triangulation is stoopid, particularly in this day and age, and proves Michael Bennet is a political coward.
MB will continue with his acts of cowardice and will continue in his role as Senator-for-Life because, even tho this blog claims to be political vs. policy, this blog rarely holds Democrats accountable for their political failures, which at the same time highlights the political cowardice of the proprietors of this blog.
Voting against your base, against all of mankind, really, and trying to appease a Militaristic Madman is both horrible policy and politics.
Trump wants to pull the nuclear trigger to show how awesome he is. And if he does, Bennet will have encouraged him with his vote.
A rest, give it, ZappAhab!
Pledge to Impeach Trump, a Key Donor Demands of Democrats
Would someone tell this rich idiot that Mike Pence is vice president?
Yes, Pence is waiting in the wings, but I don't see Pence doing things much differently from Trump in policy terms. Maybe he won't start a war in Korea, and maybe he won't push White Supremacy, so those things might be an improvement.
The problem is NOT just Trump, and NOT just Pence. The rot is in the entire Republican Party.
The only solution is for Democrats to gain a majority in the Senate & House. Therefore, the only real question is whether the Republican Party continues to disintegrate Trump & Bannon are helping the avalanche a long.
Will Pence as Prez help or hurt Democrats in 2018?
Right now, we have a choice between a stumblebum incompetent fascist and a sober, efficient, fascist. I'll go with the stumblebum.
Our best friend in World War II was Hermann Goering whose incompetence lost the battle of britain and Stalingrad. Faced with an implacable foe, I'll go with the stumblebum over the competent one every time.
How could Pence be any worse, for the nation as a whole or for Democrats? Pence seems to be much more committed (at a personal level) to anti -LGBT and anti-women issues than Trump. That doomed him as governor of Indiana and will doom him as president. Trump is enacting anti-LGBT and anti-women policies anyhow – banning transgender from the military, restricting access to birth control, pledging to defund Planned Parenthood, banning abortion. They have the same policy agenda, Pence is just more sincere in his homophobia and sanctimoniousness.
See V'ger's comments above. With Trump in office, the GOP is slowly (albeit hopefully picking up speed) destroying itself, and showing the voters the price of giving Republicans any power.
Trump's behavior is seen by our friends and enemies mainly as just Trump, not the US in general. We're taking damage in foreign relations, but I'm pretty sure our Generals and civilian leaders below Trump won't allow him to initiate a war. Fingers crossed that North Korea doesn't do it first.
As V'ger says, Pence as Prez would likely get their agenda going again legislatively, thus making a lot of the damage permanent, not simply reversible the next time a Democrat is in the White House.
Pence will have no more success than Trump at legislation.
The problem is that wrecking the insurance industry and breaking the budget for tax breaks to the wealthy simply won't work. The Republican Party breaks up even faster if you do either of those things.
Sure, Pence would sign bigoted legislation as a sop to the Religious Right because he is a true believer. But, Trump would sign the same bigoted legislation as a sop (or maybe as an SOB) to the Religious Right because he is intentionally destroying the liberal American consensus.
Pence is a religious zealot. Is he a White Supremacist? Does Bannon have his hooks into Pence? I'm not sure; well, no more than than Bannon has his hooks into all Republicans. (The crazies literally; the moderates as a primary threat)
Pence is too much of a religious nut. And he actually believes the stuff he preaches.
At least with Trump, it's all just an act. Think Two Corinthians as well as the debauchery in his personal life.
How could Pence be worse? As R& R says above, Pence is a true believer in the dangerous policies The Yam is trying to jam through, either legislatively or by fiat.
What makes Pence more dangerous is that he has a strong grasp of politics, policy and governing. He knows how to get the things he wants done.
Indiana SB101, the Licence to Discriminate law severely damaged Indiana’s economy and reputation, but Pence gleefully signed it surrounded by a phalanx of religious extremists, and only modified (not rescinded) it after the Chamber of Commerce landed on him like a ton of bricks.
It cost the state as much as 60 million dollars in lost business. Now expand that to the whole country when he gets to sit in the Big Chair.
Deteriorating life under a moron or deteriorating life under a fascist zealot? . . .
. . . that is the question!
(It’s getting more and more difficult to maintain my sunny fucking disposition in the face of the alternatives that the Republiclown GOP has foisted upon America . . .)
Oh, btw, someone I think posited yesterday that Donnie TwoScoops doesn’t qualify as a “moron” because of his “focus”?!? Nope. The Toddler-in-Chief has a strongly functioning reptilian brain, but cognitively Tillerson was spot on — the douchetard is a “fucking moron.”
PS. It’s Steyer’s money, but extracting this kind of pledge is stupid and self-defeating and only feeds the stereotype of politicians who can’t be trusted to think, but can be bought . . .
. . . moronishness might be contagious?!?
It's okay to insult Trump, but choose your insults to be more accurate and more effective. "You're stupid; No, you're stupid; No, you're stupid…." Why even go there.
Ignorant – Yes. Moron – No. (Doesn't inform us of much)
"Secretary of State Tillerson called Donald Trump a 'fuckin moron' after he wanted to increase the nuclear arsenal by a factor of 10". (That actually tells us something).
Bigoted White Supremacist, Right-Wing Zealot, Anti-Science Ignoramus, Pro-Plutocrat – Yes.
"You're intentionally making health insurance more expensive and unavailable for millions of Americans".
"You are enriching yourself and your rich friends"
"You are fostering fear and divisiveness in Americans".
You’re right . . .
. . . I sometimes forget that there may be folks here who haven’t read one newspaper article, or seen or heard a single news broadcast, since last January for all those multiple daily specifics I have failed to properly enumerate . . .
Global warming? Pshaw….
In other (grown-up, sciency) news:
The Great Nutrient Collapse
I read the headline, but before we get all excited, is the science really in on this?
My basic college biology suggests taking the headline with a grain of salt.
The author says in the article this is not an issue the science community has paid any attention to – but that he has come to enough scientific conclusions from his own work that he believes it warrants further study.
The science is, however, in on this issue. Where should Colorado farmers send the bill?
